I posted up a while ago about this knock/thud I had in the rear of my FG and tried a few things to no avail. I finally thought it had come good after changing the diff bushes but it has now returned!

So its an 08 FG sedan with 87,000kms with zf on ssssl springs and monroe gt sport shocks.

I've also changed the control blade bushes to pedders ones and diff bushes to super pro comfort's.

I've been under and checked every nut and bolt, checked every bush and can't see anything that's worn out

It only happens over really sharp bumps.

Anyone else had this issue or can offer any light onto other things I may be able to try? I've already been to one ford dealer and 2 suspension shops and no one can tell me what the problem is. It gives me no confidence to drive in a spirited way because you feel like somethings gonna let go on me!

Thanks!

When you say sharp bumps do you mean short quick bumps like a road join or large changes in elevation that would put the suspension through its range of travel?

Sorry about my ignorance but are they the joints connecting the rear sway bar?

If so I had a play with them and doesn't feel like there's any movement. Should they be taken off to inspect?

Yes the link pins connect the swaybar to the lower control arms, if the bush is cracking they are stuffed, rose joints are also a major cause of annoying rear end knocks

Thanks mate! I have to head back to canberra 2moro morning for uni and no point getting under the car now because couldn't get the parts even if that's the problem.

Might go to pedders and get their $14 check and ask them to check the link pins and rose joints and if they need replacing just bite the bullet and get them to do it or what till im back in Griffith when I have access to tools etc.

I can't imagine there being anything major because the suspension all over the place, just annoying to hear it all the time

Had the same problem. Was resolved after tightning the bolts around the rear swaybar bushes. It looked tight to me, but I still tried to tighten it up.
