Hi there. New to this scene. I'm irish living here in Perth. Time has come to get a new car. Have never had an XR6T but its definitely what I want. I went for a test drive in an immaculate white 05 one tonight. Drove very well, pulled hard on boost, immaculate body work. But few problems:

1. Leaking power steering fluid (not bad)

2. Small engine oil leak (not bad, possible seal??, seemed fresh)

3. Small gearbox leak (had a gear box refurbishment in November with receipts)

4. Leak in rear diff (possible seal??)

Are these common problems. I loved everything about the car and only for my mate who's a mechanic I probably would have taken it but thought I'd research first.

Any advice welcome because I have no experience. I can link the car if anyone thinks they might know it.

If your concerned about leaks etc and are keen give them a small deposit say $100 and say you will purchase it pending a mechanic to check it over to quote to repair said leaks, if its a lemon walk away.

The price seems reasonable although it does have 170,000kms

He is moveable on price slightly. My mate is a mechanic but said he'd need a better look on a lift to know for sure. It did drive awesome. Anyone know of any others in that price range available. Would spend a small bit more for the right one.

Forget it, for what it will cost to repair you could buy something that is much better and leak free. The axle seal alone is a fairly big job. That said if your mechanic mate is prepared to fix it all it may be worthwhile.

Cheers

Power steer leak will be a hose, or fitting, common problem, engine oil leak could be rod coming out of block(common again) :blind:

If you arent in a hurry, and as said, can stretch to a few more $, keep looking for as late as you can afford.

Lol about the rod coming out of block. I can stretch a little extra but the problem is I'm in a bit of a hurry. I'm losing my work ute very soon as they need it elsewhere and public transport is not an option!!!! I live in manning and workin kelmscott so need a car!!! I'm going to have to find something.
