Maybe whilst you're here you can go and have a look at a few of the unanswered questions about you locking people out of using the older versions of your xcal that was performed in some midnight raid type showdown with no advance notice that really fcked allot of people over and still catches people unaware to this day.And then maybe address the point about cracking Ford\ZF's software to enable your product in the first place. But that's all probably unlikely to happen as you're only ever willing to just jump on the bandwagon and sling some mud at your competitor.

jmac86 Member 85 Member For: 13y 21d Posted 08/02/13 10:34 PM Share Posted 08/02/13 10:34 PM I payed good money for my car so I believe I would own the tune in it to do as I please. If I get it retuned and pay good money for that don't I own it to do as I please with it ? Just because you paid for something does not mean it is yours. I think the question can be simplifies to; Are you paying for a SERVICE or are you paying for a PRODUCT? Ie. You can pay for a rental car but it's not yours, you cannot do what you like with it. You can pay to go to the cinema but it isn't your movie. You can buy a new car and it is yours. Then there are the other examples like, you can buy a house but you can't do everything you want to it without council approval. Lol. I assume the fee is high as the tuner would have spent alot of time perfecting that tune to suit my car. Therefore the $700 covers there R&D and dyno time. Now if the bloke down the road can use the tune I have but charge $300 because he knows he doesn't need to spend much time with the car as the tune is already good but it just needs minor adjustments......I can see where the first tuner would feel betrayed and ripped off but what does that $700 I payed for get me? Do I now own the tune and am I free to do what I want with it or did that $700 cover for the tune to be "leased" to my car? I believe paying that much for a tune should make it now MY tune. A touchy topic and a very good one at it.Workshops all around charge on average the same price for there dyno tunes so this individual who is raping the original tune would wanna be cheap and reliable...... Can't see that happening as the tune originally would have been "safe" And cheap and reliable in the same sentence doesn't work!!!!!!

" its not that hard " and customers have been paying for flashy workshops and plasma screens for to long On the flip side we have a tuner here who openly says he charges more than lawyers @ $180 a hour flat rate Guess how many use him ?

That's a whole separate debate.I don't think you can argue ownership from a legal stand point as there's just nothing (as far as I'm aware) to cover this type of scenario. As far as I'm concerned I paid for the tune and that tune is mine. It's custom to my car and I'm free to do with it whatever I please. However! My moral compass dictates that I would never let someone else take the tune for their own use or even take the tune just to look at because I respect the work and effort of my chosen tuner. I also want to keep the relationship I have with that tuner intact.A few years ago there was a group of stooges pressuring other car owners that had their cars cars tuned at the higher profile shops to let a certain person "suck out" the tune in the car so he could look at it. The purpose of this was to discredit the higher profile shops... Talk about morals!
