But it goes back to the original point that all this is done using cracked\plagerised tunes that Ford have spent millions to create in the first place.

That's their intellectual property, if you did the same to Microsoft I'm fairly certain the outcome might be a bit different.

It happens more than you think,

As soon as Microsoft release the latest update and service packs for their products the cracked version soon follows.

Firstly, I also would like some further clarification as Ralphie has alluded, before the witch hunt starts in full swing.

Secondly, a fews things to be considered.

1. Who would be foolish enough to be someone's guinea pig.

2. Does said tuner have the financial resourcing to rebuild motors, and the facilities and skills to do.

3. When he blows engines up, heaps more money to be made by Joe (when they come crawling back in).

4. That fact that Joe has been informed, shows that he does have a good level of customer loyalty.

5. Wouldn't be worried in the slightest.

Cheers

I am foolish enough to be the guinea pig.

Previously we couldn't get the zf's tuned. I live in cairns and only a handfull of tuners and I wanted to stick with my tuner. He went and did the training on tuning the ZF and I offered him my car as the guinea pig. Someone had to do it, I work away and have a work car so I was perfect candidate. I give them the car for a few weeks, he plays around and tries 11ty billion things to see what works and what the box doesn't like. I get the car back when he is done, don't care if it had a tuned zf or stock.

Didn't happen though, one possible reason is the title of this thread (but probs just dumb luck), workshop got broken into the night before I was due to have the zf tuned. can't say any more as I dunno if the po po have finished.

So......

An advertiser on here who has a reputation as an honorable, reliable and safe tuner who has developed his tunes over many years, has his tune allegedly (for legal purposes) "stolen" per se by ANOTHER advertiser of the site who up until recently never had the software to tune anything from a BA onward but who now got the software and needed a base tune as a launchpad for his new tuning career. Offering people more power when one of the best tuners in Sydney has already extracted the best from the car seems reckless.

The advertiser who allegedly stole the tune happens to sell aftermarket parts for people to mod their cars with and relies upon a certain degree of commercial integrity in which to attract customers to buy his wares.

I might be out of place saying this but there is a lot to be said for conducting your business in the best ethical fashion. The last thing you would want as a business owner is to lose face and damage the reputation of the business.

Joe states that this person has been poaching HIS customers. Is there a reason for Joe to be targeted or are other tuners having their customers approached also?

Personally I wouldn't buy from a business if I knew their moral compass and integrity was flawed.

There is always two sides to a story.......I've seen this happen in Perth and it will no doubt happen again and again. It's not stealing tunes BTW.....if you are using HP you have to download the tune in the car, whether it be a 'custom' tune or the stock tune. SO before everyone gets their nickers in a knot EVERY single HP tuner has to 'steal' whatever tune is in the car in order to do an 'edit'. This is why you have people trying to get their hands on a stock tune, as not everyone wants to deal with some of the custom tune garbage that is floating around.

I remember a time when I drove a BA and the gearbox was horrible, I sucked out the tune and could immediately see MAJOR issues with the 4sp calibration....I didn't touch the tune but it allowed the guy to go away and get the issue rectified. Unfortunately the box was fisted as a result. SO sometimes stealing a tune has its benefits and can be used to prove a cause of major issues.

I would recommend EVERY tuner have a copy of software that allows the reading of the PCM. Also any decent tuner can interpret a tune using information obtained via Livelink....some basic knowledge of the algorithms and reverse engineering can tell you a lot.

There is also a lot to be said about business owners who get in to public slanging matches on the internet where passion usually trumps all logic and reason.

There is always two sides to a story.....

and three versions of the "truth". Side A, side B, and then what actually happened.

Its an insightful discussion but some of the things being said are bordering on slander. That wont be allowed so just keep it to the general topic please ladies.

This is between Joe and Rapid really, customers will leave if they are not entirely happy.

Theres alot of tuners out there, some have an idea, and only a hand full know theyre sh*t. All the tuners know headsex is one of the best in Australia, and feed him for information.

Can we just leave Joe and Rapid out of this equation.. I was hoping for a good ol argument about who actually owns the 'Tune' in the car.. Let the businessmen sort out their own problems..

hypothetically. If a tuner was to tune a car and the car ended up running crap, this person took the car to a different tuner, would this tuner start from scratch or will he tinker with the existing tune to make it perfect?

any "good" tuner will have hundreds of files saved and the incomming car will suit one of those files "better" and would go from there with tinkering as then the new tuner will know the base file is "proven"
