Was reading the below article in the Herald. The new BMW 3 GT will feature a twin turbo inline 6 but only push out 225kw. Seems like a really small number considering the FG XR6T pumps out 270kw factory.

"BMW Australia is likely to offer only three engine options, an entry-level 320i with the 135kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder, a mid-spec 320d with its 135kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel and a range-topping 335i with the 225kW/400Nm twin-turbo in-line six. Australian models are also likely to feature the eight-speed automatic as standard when deliveries commence in the middle of the year."

I have to say that 8 speed auto is just magic in the 135i hatchback. How much time could be shaved off acceleration times not to mention

1/4 mile runs if FPVs had a similiar fast shifting auto box.

It's a 3.0lt so kw per L it's better then the XR6T, plus I would guess it weighs less so better kw per ton.

With the 8 speed, better kw per ton and at a guess a better torque spread there is a good chance it would be quicker.

It doesn't need to have big power. There's other cars in the stable for that.

The std 335 weighs over 1500KG and this is bigger. I'd say a run over a standing start kilometer with a stock auto 310 FPV would see the ford take it despite the 8 speed auto. The GT is a nice ride though and check the gearing as it heads to the end of the speedo - top speed and power all come together. However, the manual ford is the same.......... 5200 RPM in top = 260. The turbo BMW has plenty in reserve - tuners get heaps out of them.

It would be great to see both cars nuts-out at Avalon airport.
