I believe they only ever do it if head office issues an advisory to re-flash all cars...as in the early days of the BA with an overboost problem. Otherwise it's just done if they really care or are looking for a resolution to something wrong.

I also bought one of the above kits, works great.

Just wondering if these are like the genuine units from Ford in that they amplify the signal ?

Just picked my Grandpa Express up yesterday, wow, wow and double wow it goes like a bast*** but I also get the not compatible message, I am using an ancient Ipod Mini, does anyone know if there's a compatibility list somewhere?

I dont beleive they do. All the kit consists of is instructional sheets and a wiring loom with 3 connectors.

1 plugs into Ipod

1 plugs into the AUX plug under dash

1 T's into a connecter behind the dash to get power to charge Ipod

I dont think theres a need to amplify the signal as its not coming from headphone jack, its coming straight from the large ipod connection.

I bought one with the booster kit from Ford. Sound is passable but you can still hear hissing and whinning sound. I think I may have damaged the wires from pulling the cable as connection cuts out often. In hindsight, should have saved the money and maybe bought an after market head unit.

I bought the ASL kit and at first I was quite impressed until I turned on the motor. It still hisses and whinds when you drive. IT has a booster switch which makes a little bit better but still you can hear the hissing at low volume and between songs. The sound clarity is great at high volume

I have a BA with the premium sound system *I think* (has 6 cd stack unit)

Is there any device I can install into it so that I could run an ipod through it?? Prefer it to be built in so no messy cables...any info would be great...

You can do this. I have the iPod connection on my BA w/ premium sound. My cable comes through the front center storage compartment (under all the air-con, radio etc controls.)
