For the ipod - buy a Belkin Car Kit - which runs of the cigartte lighter- is a built in pre-amp that you then feed into the Ford Aux cable. Apparently the volume is good (you can adjust to make the same as CDs etc). It also charges your ipod at the same time.

I think they are less than $100.

Have seen these but I was under the impression that they were an FM transmitter meaning that they would output a lower quality signal (fm quality)

Is that correct, or do you plug the ipod dock connector into the belkin device, and then the belkin into the aux in on the head unit??

Pretty sure this is the device:

Poo - that's right - belkin into dock - then stereo wire from belkin to ford accessory connector. (not an FM transmitter)

I havnt used one. though I have read of others success - and have got the cable installed on my car, just saving some dosh for the ipod and belkin unit. I have researched my heart out in preparation.

Ihave run an MP3 player directly into the Ford cable - and had to crank up the stereo - and didnt get any wining etc that some have complained of, I must have a non-squealy car. though - for the final solution I plan on IPOD and Belkin.

Another good reason for getting the IPOD, is that there is some unit planned at some stage (do some searching on this site) which interfaces the IPOD directly onto the ICC screen (so a future thing I might get).

I use that Belkin device. It has a volume control on it. I have the volume turned up to max and it matches the volume of CD and radio. I do get a bit of whine though. :kissmy:

Guys I have purchased an Ipod Nano and as always I can't seem to find a happy medium to connect it to the ute.

I have the aux input hooked up and although it is good for the sat nav, it sucks for music. Apart from the whine that we all know about, the signal level seems very low, there just isn't any oomph to the music, bass is non existant as well and I really have to turn the volume of the car stereo up to hear it.

I am running seperate amps for the speakers and subs and I have 2 x subs behind the seats and through the aux input it still sucks!

Now I have tried a couple of FM modulators as well and the sound is much better and bass is as it should be and I don't have to turn the volume up anywhere near as loud. BUT the reception fades in and out, it probably to do with the antenna being in the window.

So does anyone have a brand of FM modulator that works well or any other ideas?

Thanks,

Dean.
