Input is most definately Stereo.

You've probably just got a buggered AUX input cable. No big problem once the clowns decide they're going to replace it.

As for sound quality. I've never had the Ford one so I can't comment on it but I've done some experimenting with the DIY option and well here's the story:

"Shonky" twin core shielded cable, short run to simply test. Whine.....

"Shonky" twin core shielded to get to tissuebox location. Whine......

"Expensive double shielded (each core has it's own shield, plus shielding around them both)" cable... less whine....

Didn't matter where or how it's routed, it whines.

BUT playing around with the following has proven to give results for people:

Good 'ol fashion condensor capacitor device on the Alternator

Re grounding the audio looms under the dash

Line isolation (ground loop eliminator)

It's not the cable per-say that cuases the problem it's inherent in the wiring design at the rear of the ICC and the loom that runs audio inputs to the location above the steering column. Somewhere in that short distance there's exposure to noise. This can be proven by shorting the enable pin to ground, but not connecting any additional cable and then switching to AUX. If you're car is a whiner you'll get whine.

Can Ford fix it? I don't know Some members have tried but no-ones really posted back any reall info.

A.

Aaron's right. I fitted my own off his instructions, cost me $18. Ontop of this we ran an extra earth to minimise the interference noise no problems. It did play up once when the connector wire became loose due to the pluggin in and plugging out, resolidered now no probs.
I would suggest running a permanent plug or port in your centre console or glovebox as it is alkot easier than under the tissue compartment.

You are just being fed tease.gif by ford. There are instuctions on the foum of how to do it yourself and it is very easy. stirthepot.gif

I've made 3 of these diy mp3 plugs and fitted them to friends cars cost is around $4 do get the engine wine but you get that with the cd player anyway .

the only thing Iwould add to Aarons instructions is pull the fuse box out 3 bolts DONT drop them behind the kick panel and the rest is so easy.

Thanks Aaron your a legend

Buy yourself a aux plug cheap from ford. Plugs into somewhere near your fuse box and then under your tissue holder. Sounds good, mine dosnt whine. I have a Belkin charger and amplifier in one. I bought a separate cigarette 12v thingy wired it up pluged it in and hid it behind my dash. Sound as good as CD I think.

Can't find any of the threads on this either. Oh well.

I have heard Ford will fit an aux input for very little $.

Also someone posted a DIY guide (can't find the thread so can't give them the credit, but anyway their eMail address is on every page!). I attached this persons guide that I saved, maybe it's of some interest.

I purchased a Ford Aux cable $30 - and installed it myself - easy job. The DIY instructions are good to tell you what to take off, and where the plug goes.

You will then also need a cable to plug into the new connection and the IPOD (probably $5 from Dick Smiths)

How much better is the sound with the Belkin auto adapter as opposed to just connecting the ipod straight to the aux input, which is what I am doing at the moment.

I have Found an online shop selling these for $49.95 plus postage. Most Shops retail the item for $80...

If anyone is interested its here --->Click Me

Mine whines a bit when the volume is down. If I turn it up to a normal listening level you can't hear it though so it doesn't really bother me.

I have the Ipod and have an AUX port as well as a FM transmitter and the FM transmitter is far better.

I found the AUX port had a noticable whine from the engine and also the volume was very low.

I got a FM/charger cradle from an Apple store for $150 that plugs straight into the power source and will let me tune the FM frequency from 88.1 -> 107.9 so there is no problem with being not able to find the right frequency.

Save your sanity and get the FM transmitter.
