Hi all,

Looking at purchasing a new (2012) Turbo and have been googling around for exhaust upgrades, lots of impressive jargon from people like XForce however all I want to know is, given the factory engine and tune would a bigger/better/whatever exhaust deliver (slightly) more power?

And regardless, which in your experience delivers the best exhaust note? Looking for a nice burble like my debunged Territory T has at the moment.

Thanks for listening...

^^^ What he said. If you have no plan to change the turbo for a bigger unit then a dump and cat will give you all the power you need when coupled with a tune. The sound in my opinion with this mod is great with no drone or exessive noise. Just a nice burble as you are looking for.

Benny.

Please make sure to keep us updated with what you end up doing, this is relevant to me as well. I've been looking at some options myself for my mkII.

Thanks for the replies, a couple of follow up questions:

What exactly does removing the ring do and why is it there to begin with? Is it the same as what I had done to my Territory which cost me $50 and made the thing sound 5000 times better.

If I was to go the cat replacement route you mention a tune, I assume that's a custom tune, does that mean each time I need it serviced I need a specialist or are you talking simply about modding the chip?

Cam,

The ring is a restriction in the exhaust so removing it will allow better exhaust gas flow. It isn't the exact same mod as your Territory but will result in much the same thing. I believe the ring was installed in the euro iv to make the engine get to operating temperature quicker when started. This allows the car to get off the cold start fuel map and reduces emissions.

A custom tune is simply flashing a modified ecu map into the car and will not require anyone special to service it in the future. Just make sure if you take it to Ford that they don't reflash it with a factory tune. If so then you'll have to flash it back.
