Hi All,

I have a 03 ba xr6 turbo sedan which when I bought had a problem of missing when on boost which I fixed by replacing the coils and

plugs. Over the weekend the miss has come back and gotten worse to the point where it is running on 5 cyls at idle and breaking down really bad when giving it any throttle at all. Also when I shut the car off I can hear the turbo still spinning but it's a coarse sound?

What is acceptable end float for a turbo? I don't appear to be losing coolant and there is no milkshake in the overflow bottle so hopefully not a head gasket.

Basically I want to have the car checked out but not really sure who to take it to in Perth?

Cheers for any help you can offer.

first step to take would be to do a compression test and then a leak down test, this will tell you the mechanical condition of the engine. Is the car stock or has it been tuned?what suburb in perth are you from?

Bionic- what's the best/easiest way to tighten the inlet manifold bolts without a hoist? I can only get to the front one easy and the rest can't get to at all woth the fuel rail there

Mate grab a can of carby cleaner, start the engine and spray along the intake manifold sealing surfaces, you will hear the idle change straight away if you have even a slight leak, and if it does change you then will have to either tightn or replace the gasket

Best to use a 10mm ratchet spanner, can get to all bar the back lower two which can be reached from but ensure there are no leaks because tightening wont fix a split gasket!!

^^^^ agree with above about genuine coils!!!

Thanks for all the responses - the car is stock 155,000km. I have replace 5 of 6 coils with aftermarket, can't remember exact brand but they were cheap approx. $20 each.

I used the ngk plugs with 1.1mm gap as car is still stock. Shaun - I live south of the river but happy to travel to have someone with expertise check it over.

What is the best method to use to eliminate the coils? I replaced them originally because they looked sh*tty and had hairline cracks in the plastic and it did seem to solve the problem.

Rule number one always replace coils with genuine

Rule number two always replace them all. I would be putting a set of genuine coils in right away
