It's a little concerning that we appear to getting told - a different reply to the same story .. Although I still can not see the harm in wanting to replace the factory oil and filter at 1000 and then at 5000 and then after at 5000 intervals - at my expense... I also have been doing some homework on this matter - and again strong and loudly I ve been told that the mineral oil used at production is not available to anyone , can not be purchased , and should it be changed before the recommended 10,000k (although it is understood that Ford have relaxed this requirement and will accept a change at 7000k) and a warranty issue arises , they will remove the oil , inspect it and if found to be altered - you will - no if's or but's - void your warranty !!! Period..

I have made enquiries independently through various trusted contacts - including my cousins whom has worked at Holden, Toyota , and Subaru...

All have stated , unless the oil is changed at the dealership , and you are unlucky to have a warranty issue - you will find it difficult to have your warranty honored ..

It might be - that I will have to forgo the change at 1000 and try to convince the dealer to change the oil and filter at 5000 - max

I can not see any other options as a win win ??? Can you?

Please do not get upset with me, as I appreciate the early work about - especially Rapid work - but I can not take the forum thread as support - should I have a issue !!! I am disappointed with this result as it makes no sense - but unless someone can demonstrate evidence of a action that will not void a warranty sanctioned by Ford - then I guess we are on our own to make a decision and what ever the decision - you and you alone will be bound to your actions !!

10k on a very light weight mineral oil and a new engine

sounds like an easy way to make you but a new one every three years to me

Read my other post in this thread, do some research or pm me if you want to know more on why/how.

I know - what we as a group are saying is on the money .. I do not want to allow the engine to run on mineral oil for any more than 1000k's.. However , unless , as reported by Rapid - get my hands on the same oil - so as I can do interval changes - I see no other way but to wait for the dealer to change it ..Agree - keep the dirty mineral oil in for 10,000k and you risk f _ _ king the engine, change it with some 'other' specificed oil and you risk voiding any warranty !! Either way I am F _ _ KED!!!..

I am leaning towards agreeing with Rapid 's approach - get my hands on the same oil - change it at 1000, and then at 5000 and then roll up to the dealer at 7000 as agreed - and no one is any the wiser !!! (well unless they can prove that I have done what I said in this forum !!) - maybe we should have the administrator wipe this 'thread' to protect us all!! :buba:

The engine oil used from the factory is Castrol Edge 5w20 which is a semi synthetic. Watch the video below and you'll hear it right from the horses mouth at 5mins 20secs. 5w20 Castrol Edge will be fine to use for the life of the engine when changed at the required intervals and can be obtained from any Supercheap Auto store or Castrol dealer as stated above.
