Having left the dealership , I had the opportunity to talk to the service manager , and I stated I would be back to have the oil changed at 1000k and then at intervals of 5000k .. He looked me up and down like I was from outer space or had just jumped out from under a rock.. I stated ,it has been a practice I have employed with all my cars . He stated he wouldn't and would look to change the oil at no less than 7000ks ..as it had special oil designed to help the engine in the early stages .. I said , that ' s ok , just replace it with the special oil at 1000 and again at 5000.

Would hear of it....

Is there any truth / merit in this special oil?

Am I wrong to change it at 1000 and then at intervals of 5000?

im in the same boat as you spinning and was told the same by my dealer as well.reckons prematurely changing the "running in oil" may affect the bores as in glazing etc.. crap I reckon but just the same id like to know as well

it is a good idea to change oil and filter early and in some cases there is a different oil that is required until the car has done approx 15000 klms

I see ... There is a 'special' oil ..Having said that - I am still of the opinion that no harm - except good can only come from altering the oil early and having it replaced with the same 'special' oil at least until 10,000k - which will mean that I will have changed the oil already twice - once at 1000k and then at 5000k . I am not confident that the service manager will not allow me to change the oil - he already thinks I am a nutter .. Should I then take the car elsewhere to have the oil and filter changed ? - Where ? :buba:

Im in two minds about this, YES they are factory filled with a run in oil. Changing it at 1-3000ks if it was my car I would just leave the run in oil in until 5000. BUT I dont think any damage will be done changing it at 1000, as anyone with a freshly built (although slightly higher tolerance) performance engine would do. Oil changes every 5000ks are the go as the factory 15k intervals are a stretch and a half!

I don't see any issue with what your asking to be done, if you want to spend the money and have it changed more often that's fine. Just stick with the run in oil till the time that your meant to change to normal syn oil that way it won't affect the warranty on the vehicle.

I personally do 7500ks between oil changes but would never go 15000 like the factory states.

I feel dirty knowing I got to 45k kms before I started more regular intervals, thing that eases it a bit is that most of my kms are cruising speed so hopefully that makes it not 'as' bad.

If you have the time drop the oil yourself, simple as, rewarding too.

I'd like to know what information is there that tells people that "run in" oil is used in the Falcon. If there is then what is the difference between that and the normal oil.

Benny.
