Rollin the point is that you only have 315rwkw. Why have you even got the opt5? Going by the ratings an opt3+ should be fine for your car.

The main discussion of this thread is why are the clutch dying below there ratings,Of course your clutch is going to hold up,Its rated for over 550rwkw.

Dosnt seem like we will get an answer to why as it seems everytime a clutch has been slipping no one is sending them back to Mal Wood to be diagnosed.

Nice videos by the way!

Would have thought the videos would be a pretty good example of why I have/need an option 5....

Don't know why nobody sends the clutches back, seems like they're trying to hide something to me...but I'm naturally a suspicious type of preson though.

Something as inconsequential as finger print oil on the flywheel can have a marked effect on the power handling capabilities of a clutch - a lot of people (even mechanics, ffs, used to do my head in) reckon that oils etc will 'burn off' in service, but it doesn't. It burns INTO the flywheel and glazes it, which wrecks any power handling capability the clutch would otherwise have.

The flywheel, pressure plate and friction disc/s must be surgically clean before assembly - only perfectly clean hands, fresh super clean rags, copious amounts of 'brake clean' (which evaporates without leaving any residue) and compressed air must be used.

I don't expect any of you gents with shiny new cars would have to worry about oil leaks just yet, but rear main seal, sump, rocker cover or input shaft oil leaks can also affect the clutch - even if it's not dripping directly onto it, it gets pretty windy inside a bell housing at 6000rpm, and oil vapours can contaminate the clutch as well.

I'm dead keen to see pics of dead clutches here - anyone got pics?

Mine is coming out sometime next week. And Paul will have it back . I will take pictures and post them up no problem . And I'm happy for Paul to put is honest input in too .

Mine go sent to malwoods on thursday. If Paul is on and is happy to put pics up of it when he gets it it'd be good.

Paul,

(PM if preferred) what sort of cost would I be looking at to have my opt5 tided up (ie new plates, machine flywheel/inter/pressure plate?) Also do you have a service Agent in Perth or just West's for installs?

Here are the photos of Trent's clutch...

As you can see on the flywheel near the ring gear there is a build up of grease/oil on the outside, and the contamination had made its way through the clutch plate.

Pictures speak a thousand words!
