There shouldn't be an excess payable by OP if not at fault. However, it might be cheaper to check repair costs as there could be a big difference between panel beater quotes :nod:

The excess is for his friend the repair cost vs excess cost = cheapest option ?

Yeah will get some quotes but I doubt his excess is anything over $1500.


A rear bar, boot, taillights, labour and spraying? I can't imagine it being less than his excess

The whole not slowing/dodging a wild animal isn't law, its recommendation by insurers because there are lots of cases of people dodging a kangaroo, leaving the road and hitting a tree.. Which is alot more expensive for the insurer than just hitting a roo.

that's what I thought but an ex's dad was driving home from work at about 4pm along Mccarrs creek rd (twisty though a fair bit of bush and one lane each way) in his old hilux and saw something run onto the rd out of the corner of his eye. He swerved not knowing if it was a kid and ended up hitting a tree and into the undergrowth. Called the cops thinking it was the right thing to do and they booked him for negligent driving even though he thought it was a kid because it turned out to be a bushturkey. Pretty harsh in my opinion

as soon as the arse end gets hit say goodby to the whole thing, aparantly theres some bar in teh rear that if hit should not be repaired or some sh*t....mate went through it with my car (when he owned it) it was only slightly taped in teh arse end by simene that rolled down a hikll and hit him at like 5kph

Many other reasons there why the police could think 'negligent' driving in that case.. And dodging a bush turkey isn't it..

Was your mates dad focussing correctly? was he fatigued and unable to make a correct judgement call?

or sadly enough.. Was the cop having a bad day?

He was fine. Can't blame the cop really as they'd hear every excuse daily. In hindsight he regrets calling them and shoulda just got the towie.
