Is My O2 Sensor Fubar?

Pretty simple little question for you guys.

Me and a mate installed an Autometer Cobalt A/F gauge in my BA mk1 xr6t last weekend (yes, I know they are just pretty little disco lights for the dash) but the gauge always reads full lean. Either off throttle, light application or WOT shows full lean with a very very slight movement towards stoich on WOT (by this I mean 2 of the yellow lights very dimly light up). We wired power direct to the AUX power coming from the cigarette lighter with a 5A inline fuse and connected the sender wire to the grey wire coming off the stock O2 sensor.

From some preliminary research I've done, this fault could be caused by a dead O2 sensor, the car has just clicked over the 100,000 on the clock and was only ever owned by "little old ladies" not rampant hoons like me and you. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance.

not all o2 sensor fault result in a warning light, the o2 may be working fine and actually reporting what is going on, did you solder the wire on the signal wire?

Installing a gauge on a narrowband o2 sensor can atleast let you know when your 02 sensor is working. Also let's know that your car is going from closed loop to open loop and back again as per normal operation. So not useless turbotrana.

How does the car idle ?

How is it on fuel?

Idle is fine, however feels underpowered and misses occasionally when cold (replacing spark plugs tonight to see if that makes a difference). Fuel wise, she's pretty thirsty. I get roughly 300km to a full tank of 98, however I don't have the lightest of feet.

Is the engine warning light on , usually comes on if 02 sensor is farked.

When in doubt, get it on the dyno

No warning light at all.

Yep, soldered the signal wire onto the grey wire from the o2 sensor from within the engine bay then ran through a grommet to the cabin. Wanted to do it from the ECU but couldn't find an ECU pinout diagram for the life of me.

Don't waste your time. There is no meaningful info from those disco lights

I am aware of this, however the gauges were provided free of charge on permanent loan from a mate so beggars can't be choosers I guess :D

do not solder onto the signal wire between the o2 and the first connector when you get a new sensor otherwise you will kill that one also, ok to solder the other side of the plug though
