Hello all! :wavey:

(Just a bit of background info to set the scene)

I have recently purchased a 2005 ba xr6 turbo. I opt for the 3 year used car "sentinal" warrany. came in handy immediatly when I got rear bushes replaced, and currently booked in for a clunk in the drive train (thinking drive shaft for diff?)

Anyway, when it went in for the bushes I had them clean the throttle body after seeing on this forum it was a possible cause of engine idle problems, it fixed it and all went well.

But after getting my car back a new problem has started

When giving it a bit of power off the lights or to overtake, up to around 4000rpm or above and changing gears, it will accelerate for less than half a second, then back off for a second or so, before restoring power...

Car is stock standard 6 speed bar a blow off valve it came with from previous owner, 108,000kms.

would this possibly be coil packs? leads and plugs? or boost issue? My warranty wont let me take it to ford for diagnostics so im worried a small mechanic outfit will end up just guessing and putting parts on until its fixed.

ideas?

thanks! :icon_ford:

From my exprience failing coils/plugs feels similar to when you hit trac control. From what your saying it's just a momentary power drop? Could be dirty/blocked air filter or bov not working properly causing turbo to stop spinning at gear shift.

Would I be better off taking it into ford dealer to plug it into their computer? or would that not pick up the problem?

otherwise I guess its just one thing at a time huh, plugs and leads first and hope that's it.

oplock- yep feels just like traction control, but without the wheel spin haha.

valve springs a big job?

I wanted everything to go through ford, but its at my expense there. Ill see how much just to plug in, then take back to free mechanic :B):

also rear end clunk? feels like its just behind drivers seat, drive shaft common problems?

Does it make I kind of brr sound when it drops power. Easy way is to check the coil packs and if there's white sh*t on the end they're blown. I had 3 coils farked but showed no fault codes at ford or problems on a dyno.

Ill mention it to the mechanic on wednesday to check them. no sound like that, its like the computer is holding the revs as they are for a moment, no deceleration or anything. Had a similar problem in my old VR4, but that wasnt just after gear changes, and turned out to be plugs.

Just today though I felt it had a little less power when accelerating then the power kicked in after a second or so.

Hadnt had this problem until mechanic removed throttle body so that has me thinking. Im not taking it back to him, as I found the air intake to the turbo hadnt been connected and was sitting in place loose, pulling unfilterd air....
