We just swapped out the standard FG turbo for a 35/40 cartridge and ported the wastegate at the same time. Problem is boost hits 18PSI but tapers off to about 12psi at redline. We have all the standard supporting mods ie cat, injectors, intake, xcal but have kept the STANDARD INTERCOOLER. We have tested the wastegate actuator and checked for any intercooler/BOV leaks on the dyno.

Do you think the standard intercooler could be hindering the performance that much, if not what do you think it could be?

We were thinking next to check the cat, it is however only a 6 month old 100 cell cat?

Thanks for your help guys, Dave's known to be one of the best tuners in Australia, he has done this cartridge change many times and said he always uses the standard wastegate actuator and tested this one on the dyno and everything seemed normal.

Moving forward if it is the wrong actuator does this mean that the flap could be opening prematurely and losing boost? What is the right Actuator and where can I source one? Can it be swapped without to much trouble?

Thanks heaps guys I wanna put this to rest.

you need an actuator that's close to the boost level you want to run, the stock actuator does not have enough spring pressure to remain closed with the pressure being built up in the turbo

Dave reckons the stock actuator spring is strong enough and that he has done many xr6 turbo's g6e's and even f6's with the standard actuator with no problems at all.

From the feedback I received today it sounds like I guess not all actuators are made equal, how many people here with FG's have actually had this problem and just rectified it with a heavier wastegate actuator?

Thanks

Chris
