Rwc On Modified Cars (Victoria)

Hi All,

I'm currently looking at buying a BF XR6T as my next car. I'm leaning towards getting a car that's already had the usual mods done to do it, as I figure as long as it's been looked after properly I should be able to save some $$$ over doing the mods myself. I've expanded my search to include the surrounding states since you never know where the right car may be. One of the downsides of buying interstate is you definitely have to organise your own RWC. So, my main question is, how hard is it to get a road worthy on a modified XR6T? Do normal bolt on mods (e.g. coolers/injectors/CAI etc) normally cause problems with been issued a RWC?

Also, if you know of any good BF XR6T's for sale, please shout out! Looking for something with a build date post July 06 (preferably), favour sedans but the right ute would tempt me. Carsales is looking a bit bare at the moment.

a late model car pretty much needs to be totally stock to pass a rwc in vic, there have been exceptions to this as some depends on the tester doing the test but there are only one set of rules

Yep, agree with both above posts. Its getting harder to get RWC and with the new rules regarding photo's being taken and documented you will struggle to find a tester that will 'overlook' even the most minor mods so get yourself a standard car for the right money and do the mods yourself and at least with a standard car there's a good chance that it hasnt been flogged within an inch of it's life but as with everything, there are exceptions to every rule! I've had 3 roadworthys modded without dramas.

I had one stock (injectors and tune) and the guy failed me because he believed it had a bigger turbo.

The problems with rwc is people interpret the guidelines differently so each mechanic and shop differ on what they believe

Is rwc and not, good luck when you consider the consequences the mechanic has if he pass s something unroad worthy

And gets caught they will loss a lot of income why would you bother

Agree with spinr33, 99% of RWC testers won't risk thier license for anything they don't believe to be RWC but on the odd occasion it can be a case of not what you know, but who you know!

Jesus so different to QLD.. Admittedly you get pulled for aftermarket turbos without mod plates, but a RWC doesn't take into account mods.. They basically just check for oil leaks, functioning brakes, working light globes and CV joints.
