From what I can see at glance there is a bit of talk on here about the TH400, powerglide, C4 and dont forget the built ZF's that are also out there. Wondering how many people do have these units in their beasts and what they have achieved with them, what power is being run through them etc? I have been looking at transmissions and came across a 4L80E (descendent of the TH400), does anyone have any info on these?

Is the 4L80E a box you have seen on eBay from RVO? What type of power are you running and what's you end goal for the car?

I have a protrans T400 in mine, car is street and strip made 700hp at the rear wheels on unleaded now going for as close to 1000hp at the rears as I can get with E85. Again it all depends on what you plan to do with the car.

http://jakesperformance.com/Transmissions.html is where I found the 4L80E. I dont think it was used in the SV6 but im not sure.

My plan, well I plan around 1000hp or more at the rears also Stee3. Completely rebuilt driveline, diff etc, monobloc 4 piston fron and rear brakes, Built motor, GTX4508r turbo is what I wish to use, Process west s3 intercooler, APS exhaust, there are lot of other parts I will need also to get there I understand that, this is just a general overview. Budget will be over $30000 easy im guessing, im not a mechanic so I cant really do any of the work myself. I'm aiming towards Autotech to do the tuning and motor work. By the end of the project The car will most likely just be used for the strip, but I would try and get it streetable at that power level if possible.

My car is 07 MKII BF turbo.

The two speed glide sounds good but so do a few of the others that I have looked through on here. I dont want a comparison to the ZF transmission, but is the glide a bitch if you need to drive it daily or not so bad? well maybe not daily, but just to get around when you need it.

I dont think a zf would be up to that task would love to be proved wrong

1000hp at the rears is serious power speak to auto builders would be your best bet also your budget would be about 40k+ :sorry:

Thanks snapper. Yeah it would be over 40+. Was being consrvative really. Im tossing up throwing the most I can at it. Which would end up being over 50+ . Yeah I mean to ask when I find the right shop to do the work. Just would like to go in there with some ammo/info that I could learn here from people who have gone through a big build.

4l80e is not found in any commodores standard they have the much more fragile 4l60e,4l80e's are found in hummers and other gm trucks they are basically a electronic controlled turbo 400 with overdrive so if you go down that path you will need to either go full manual or get a stand alone trans controller (fast make a decent one).when built right they are a super tough trans.
