It'd have about the same benefit as an electric supercharger...and some people swear by how great they are.

The current drawn by the fans would sap more power than any increase they could provide. Perhaps unless you rig them up to draw from a separate battery that is not connected to your alternator and is recharged off-line/after your power-run?

Great that your exploring new ideas instead of just obeying the norm...but you'd think if it really was the magic pill then it'd already be common practice.

mate that's fine, knock yourself out. good luck finding concrete evidence

Once I have the gauges and sensors I will scientifically test it all and post the results.

he isn't even giving it any throttle wtf pretty inconclusive

Looks like WOT to me, he is going from 100 to 170, looks like he is in a Golf.

Not sure what you mean here. Are you saying that the power draw would put more strain on the alternator causing it to make more resistance on the fan belt which reduces engine power? If that's what you are saying then can you provide figures to back it up please. I say this because I saw figures on a 4x4 site (they were talking thermo fan on intercooler) and the fan caused a loss less than 1hp. They concluded that the power draw was not an issue.

Yes you may be right. Although thermo fans do seem to be quite common amoungst the 4x4 community but this is because the gains there are huge, due the fact that they engine is working hard whilst the vehicle is moving slowly so natural air flow is limited. Anyway its easily tested, I just have to find a way to fit the fan in there.

found it

no joke there are gains to be had with painting the fan motor black too im not talking about impellor.. the thermodynamics of black in this instance will allow the fan motor to run cooler as the heat is expelled at a greater rate using the colour black. Black cables may also be of value here if slightly undersized for less weight.

All in all this means there will be minimal losses from the extra load given to the alternator from the thermo fan allowing the monza cooler to out perform its counterparts.

black retains heat, not dispels it. on a hot day go stand on a bitumen road and then step on a kerb or the white line in the middle and tell me what the difference is. or better still do it on a busy freeway...

no it expels heat srs go touch a hot stove.

Black has better heat exchange properties than any other colour.

that's the reason car radiators are painted black, unless the radiator is from a new car by which it is made of aluminium, thus left in its natural state as aluminium is better at heat exchange than copper core traditional radiator.

And that's the difference. XR's are moving when the engine and turbo are working hard so there's natural airflow through the cooler. They're not working hard when the car is stationary like the 4x4's you mentioned.
