No the RP was black unlike its purple that it begins with but it still looked ok as far as the texture, smell and feel of it.

The shell in my territory was almost sludgy you could say and also black and with a bad burnt smell and something else and the head had alot of gunk (carbon?) built up in where you can see from the filler hole. I will do a oil flush next time before changing it but my xr6t is still clean inside and both cars have the same km's on the clock.

I did assume though that the oil in my territory had done alot more km's than the previous owner mentioned!

I run royal purple 10-40 in my fg have done from 15,000kms when I switched to full syn now has 32,0000.. No probs with it apart from the price. Change it 5000-7500kms when I can be bothered.

Have been using Royal purple 10w 40 since 7,500kms.

My FG has now done 187,500kms! Must be a record!

Also done at least 20 full circuit days and it gets flogged, trust me. Can't fault the oil but it does get get changed every 7,500kms (before circuit days) and who on this forum doesn't throw money away on these cars? :)

The higher end synthetics are all much the same. Penrite, Amsoil and Mainlube all good.

There a plenty of threads anwering why not to use a 0W though.

Sorry Ralphie looks like they are keeping it a secret. I also use Penrite. But what I have uncovered is that they RP and Penrite have similar flash points, and are using zinc not sulphur as friction modifiers. I know Penrite used high quality base oils, so I'd suggest the greatest difference in the two oils is price.

Cheers
