Help With Xr6t Questions

now for my questions :)

1. does anyone with premium brakes have the shudder problem?

2. what sort of quarter mile time/mph are people getting with the various mod packages out there in the region of 280-300 kw at the flywheel (basically after a real world comparison to what my current car will do)

3. is anyone having probs with the auto transmision and also have around the 300kw power mark

4. average fuel economy obtained in mostly city driving.

5. anyone care to share good/bad xr6t purchasing/servicing stories with dealerships in adelaide (pm me if you dont want to make anything public)

im sure ill have plenty more questions depending on the responses I get, ive been reading lots of posts over the last 4 days and have found alot of good info so far.

1: I replaced the standard rotors (front only) with DBA slotted when they started to warp. The only problems I've heard about with Premium brakes is a squealing noise.

2: Mines stock, can't help too much here. Traction (lack of) and failing drivetrain components seem to holding back modded XR6Ts. I think low 11 secs is about the quickest I've heard of.

3: Nizpro and Redcliffe Dyno are making well over 300kw and have lunched their trannies. Another member BCL has ~330kw (Nizpro mods) with a manual trans and it is making some pretty sad noises and is hard to select gears sometime.

4: Mine is averaging 13.3 for 17500km of mixed mostly city driving. They reckon the modded cars are prpgrammed to run leaner and can get better fuel economey, problem is with the extra power you tend to use it all the time so fuel economy can be worse. Been discussing fuel economy with a couple of other people just recently and can't work out how modded Ts run leaner - surely it takes more fuel to create a bigger bang in the combustion chamber enabling said vehicle to go faster?

5: I'm in Canberra so not really relevant but my salesman had poor product knowledge of the car and what accessories were available. this site is your best friend as far as knowledge goes. :sleepystuff:

Its because the car from factory will generally run too much fuel to ensure that all possibilities are accounted for. Most aftermarket ECU's will lean out most area's the major one being part throttle application where you spend the most time (cruise is generally fairly lean anyway on most modern cars), this is why you will see a difference in economy. As to using more fuel to make a bigger bang, that's not technically correct, different engines will make more power on different air to fuel ratios. On a turbo car the more fuel can have a cooling effect on the exhaust charge (it can also, depending on the timing have a positive effect e.g. anti lag applications and earlier spooling of the turbo via retarded timing and increased fuel usage) which will mean the turbo will not spool as quickly as cooler exhaust gases will generally move slower creating pre-turbo back-pressure, less scaveging of exhaust gases etc (this is just a rough example btw before techincal purists jump all over me).

Snappertom, sad to see you move away from the rexie but I think you've made a good choice with the T. I know its where I'll be heading, except with the retention of the rexie as well...

If you get a HgAg you will get 5l/100klms, gearbox will cope with 600Kw, trouble-free brakes that out-perform Brembos, and will do the quarter in 9.9 secs.

If you get any other colour, you takes ya chances ... :smilielol:

Welcome Snappertom.

I have an auto with unichip, 411cc injectors, cold airbox mods, twin 2.5inch stainless mandrell system (cat back) etc (I guess you could call it stage 2). I presently run 10lb boost and only get the occasional hunting and stalling at idle if the air con is on. It was perfect until I changed the rear muffler to 2.5inch. Anyway everydyno seems to vary too much for my liking my last readings were in horse power (rear wheel) at 345. I have an accelerometer (windscreen mounted electronic timing device).

I was away in South West WA over xmas and New Year and took daughter horseriding whereupon I found a 7klm backroad straight with no incoming roads or Radars, dropped her at the stables and went for a play. Here are the results.

0 - 60 MPH 4.78 secs

Quarter Mile 12.87 secs

Maximum speed until speed limiter 245kph (according to speedo)

Reliability hasn't been a problem so far, the Auto is fine but it has a small trans cooler and $300 worth of REDLINE ATF in it. I believe in the stuff.

Open road driving varying from 100 - 130kph around 11.5 liters per 100 klm city driving around 13. Putting a bigger intercooler BOV etc into it and winding up the wick on 12th Jan. I was thinking of going to 15lb but seeing Ownas experience I might keep it down to 12 - 13lb. Also standard brakes and suspension are sh!t if you drive hard or fast, at the least they need Bilstein shocks and DBA rotors. Hope this helps, enjoy the car. :blink:

thanks hypnodoc, very helpful indeed, im also a believer in the redline oil products, currently have it runnning in my wrx, ive got 180kw ATW and am still living on stock box and clutch.

guess I better start thinking about that most important question....colour lmao

well for one, the fuel economy will be cosiderably less than the SS.

I think you'll find there isn't much difference. I get sub 10 on the highway and average in the 14's around town with lots of WOT and 228 rwkw.
