What could the noise be? I bought the car around 4 weeks ago at Manheim Auctions Moorebank, it's an ex cop car and I noticed the engine noise around 3 weeks ago, it only comes on after driving the car hard and/or the engine is hot. I've been driving the car with the noise for a while now as it's the only transport I have

Id say one of the pulley bearings, my G6ET has done this once a few weeks back only for a few seconds the car was warm.Took it to ford they said that it was more than likely a pulley but just keep an eye on it and bring it back when its doing it and it hasnt done it again. My old Ba MKII turbo did it as well.

Id say your belt tensioner.. they lose their tension and rattle. With 100k Id look at changing the drive belt at the same time.

Worst case scenario it just my be your timing chain tensioner and/or chain guides...

Idle pulley is about $25. I had it changed by my tuner. Also changed the drive belt at the same time. It seems to be a common issue - mine had about 120k at the time.
