Apart from advertising your mates, help the girl out. There are plenty of general maintenance items that you can do on your own for free without paying someone. It could be loose turbo or exhaust bolts, dodgy tps. All those can be checked without paying someone.

I think that may have been your valve springs

valve springs?? oh ok cause the way chemarrie explained is like what happens to mine.. how do u tell if your valve springs are stuffed by the way??

OK so I have done:

Spark plugs

Coils

Fuel filter

Fuel regulator

Throttle body

Checked for vac leaks

Reset ECU

O2 sensor with genuine NTK

I cannot find a reason for my bad idle which consists of a constant miss. Can anybody suggest anything else I am all out of money and patience.

And the throttle body was a complete replacement with TPS.
The codes were lean bank 1 which a genuine o2 sensor fixed and idle air control under speed so I replaced the throttle body. Having the codes reset today. Still didn't fix my idle though. I'm thinking it may be a bad injector.
The engine has only done 125,000 and under load it seems to go well. The fuel consumption is up around 16.8l/100 which is high considering I don't thrash it everywhere. I doubt its a head gasket as no oil in the water or water in the oil etc. My gut tells me its a manifold leak should I have someone do a smoke test on it?

OK so today I ripped the whole thing apart. Tightened everything. Found a dodgy rubber joiner on the turbo inlet and replaced that with a blue silicone joiner. Tightened the upper inlet manifold bolts I could get to. Exhaust manifold bolts are OK. Tightened the turbo nuts. Tightened the spark plus 2 were on the soft side. Checked all hoses. Idles quite a bit better now. Not perfect but better.

so have you fixed your issues yet?

Mine is definitely improved. And the simple items like I suggested such as tightening the turbo nuts, exhaust and inlet manifolds, cleaning the throttle body, checking for leaks can all be done easily at home. As I said, why pay for someone to do the basics? If it is one of the above items which are easily remedied why spend your hard earned? Very nice of you to be a jerk when someone gives constructive feedback to someone new to the forum. If those simple fixes don't work, then spend money. We all know they are the turbo 101 items we tell all new members with idle issues.

I had a BA MKII that when giving it wide open throttle then coming to a stop straight away it developed a really rough idle, it would clear itself. the idle was fine as long as I didnt boost it and then suddenly stop. My mechanic at the time took it for a drive and it did it,he diagnosed it as valve springs I got the springs changed and it didnt do it again. It may not be valve springs just a suggestion.

By the way champ Autotech arent my mates they are my mechanic, and a tuner who knows these cars might fix it in 10mins and she might stuff around for weeks looking and be no closer to fixing the issue.

Hey like I said the things I suggested are free if you do them yourself, recommended service items. Why not start with something free and learn a bit about the car along the way before spending money. That is all I am saying. I'll use Auto tech myself but only after I do the stuff I can do myself first because I like to learn by doing as much as I can.
