So Christmas eve I had just made it to the inlaws in melb and chasing me up the driveway was a cop car with two officers. Straight away I get asked for my "tire size plaque" and license. I get breathalysed and show him the glove box + license. He tells me he thinks my Rims are too big, probably 20's, (Factory 50th anniversary 19" Rims which I inform him came with the car BRAND new from FORD). He then references the plaque, double checks they are 19's and agrees they are OK, just looked to big. He then runs my license, clean record, off he goes.

Does this mean that you are only permitted to have rims that are listed on the tire plaque? I always thought you could have what ever size fits providing it meets all regulations/standards (no rubbing, doesn't stick out past guard).?

I had to laugh, it's not his fault, he is only doing his job. I think he thought he had me cornered because they left in a bit of a huff.

I don't know about Melbourne but in Queensland, you can have any size rim provided 1. The load and speed rating of tyres are no lower then the factory minimum spec wheel on placard 2. The rolling diameter in no more then 26mm bigger or 13mm smaller then any factory tyre listed on placard.
