I would have thought opting for less back pressure would be better. Isn't the extra velocity created from just reducing pipe size increasing pressure.I'm thinking along the lines of that "bit" less pressure there is on the back side of the exhaust turbine would mean theres going to be that "bit" more pressure on the motor side of the exhaust turbine as it doesnt have that "bit" extra of back pressure.Im not trying to state anything here just thinking out aloud.
