Just looking for a base tune on the 2010 FG XR6T.. I have the GT intake/K&N + center resonator + I want to upgrade the intercooler prior to the tune next Jan. Now not chasing "real" power just an edge on what I currently have. Its a daily driver used for work and can easily justify 300 for an ebay intercooler.

I see these two have slightly different port styles.. anybody know if there is any real difference..

I assume either of these will be better than a Factory intercooler ?

Both of those appear to be "monza" coolers mate.. Build quality is shot.. Consider shopping around for a second hand PWR stepped cooler..

I agree with both of the above comments. You get what you pay for I believe. Have you considered the need to upgrade piping as well? With increased boost in the FG the plastic oem piping has been known to fail.

Yeah, Its difficult when there is no agreed mid range in upgrades, or I suppose 1K for an intercooler is classed as midrange :mda:

What I get out of this is: factory intercooler or 1k or wait for a second hand one to come up. Ill wait a few months and if nothing turns up might just do the tune with the stock unit.

Forget about price, unless someone has done back to back testing on various cheap intercoolers,we can't comment, flow, pressure drop and intake temps need to be tested, before people should comment,I bought a pw st2 cooler for my car because I couldnt be bothered to test anything else and pw has the runs on the board,in saying that I have seen many 32-33 gtrs and supras making well over 600hp at the wheels with cheap eBay coolers,So it's up to you, intercoolers arnt rocket science, just a alloy radiator,if u ask me I would go with a bolt on tried and proven kit for your car ,I can say one thing as soon as I changed from the stock core to the pw I could notice a much sharper response and in the end when I did test the intake temps after the final tune the temps were just above ambient

And there you have it - temps just above ambient + throttle response - That is a great result.

Gotta say, coolers may not be rocket science but getting them right in the first place does take a bit of work. Part throttle flow, pressure restrictions etc - as noted - above are part of it. The best part? Plenty of good units around and if you decide on a power figure - the choice gets easier.

Nope, both poo.Seen inside one of those end tanks before and wasn't pretty.

Process West, Plazmaman, Nizpro, Rapid Systems or HDI.

This ^^^^

One day someone will explain to me the logic of putting a $300 intercooler on a $35000 car...

this ^^^

Bad inferno! buy a cooler from the ones listed above, dont be a tight ass. They all sell a kit already designed for each model car. easy to be installed. not to sure on the hdi range though.

end thread
