How will the industrial sector get there concrete/ steel/ frames/ etc.

Cranes and pump trucks and all the othe gear.

All the serious stuff already has time restrictions.

Yeah lots of things to consider.. Eg: make the trucks doing deliveries operate earlier.. However then they can't unload because the cranes makes too much noise in resi areas..

If people don't drive as effectively because they are scared around trucks imagine how the truck driver feels of he is lane locked and can't possible go to a side if something happens in front.. That's a driver education problem.

I was always taught to never drive next to a truck.. It's okay to be in the lane next to it but either hang back a bit or get in front of it.

Ever considered a congestion charge? Additional fee in your rego to take your car that bit closer to the city then anyone who hasn't paid?

The biggest thing (I believe) that would help congestion, is there should be a compulsory section on license testing that is "correct merging" and it's a pass/fail type scenario on the test itself. It appears a large percentage of people don't know how to do it, and it causes the most traffic back ups that I've noticed.

Pretty hard question to anwser. I dont think trucks are the only cause but they certainly impeed traffic flow as well as all the other stuff mentioned here. Obviously 100% of congestions is everybody needing to be somewhere at the same time. So how about something like retail does not start until 10am -11am and finish 7-8pm? That would be a massive amount of people off of the roads at the same time. World class metro/rail systems would further reduce traffic.

Anyway we look at it though, its getting worse.

Lift the speed limit back to 100 on the monash. Idk why it's 80 now.

What about a police traffic monitoring system. My biggest issue is people in the right lane doing 80 when it's 100. If they were fined for that, I wouldn't do 110 but it would balance out anyway.

Even just 6-9 and 4-6.

As said already. Not merging correctly is a big factor

If your little POS can not accelerate to the full speed limit within the merge lane then it does not deserve registration but if it can and you still don't the you don't deserve a license. Merge requires matching the speed of the traffic as simple as that

The other big factor is failure to keep right. Try driving into Sydney from the south it is 4 lanes at 110. The fastest lane is often the far left :(. Move left or the fine should be twice that of speeding and enforced with same blind vigour

Last one about trucks. Ideally they wouldn't have to drive in built up areas but trucks should only be allowed in right lane if turning right. The flow on effect of leaving lights slow is massive

Typically an acceleration lane on say on an On Ramp is designed for an average vehicle to be able to accelerate to 80% of the speed limit.. So they aren't designed for every car to be able to hit the speed limit.

Also I do notice that a lot of people don't understand what the linemarking at different merge/acceleration lanes mean.

Dashed Line all the way to the end of the taper - YOU MUST GIVE WAY TO ANY VEHICLE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT LINE (EVEN IF IT MEANS YOU'VE GOTTA SLOW DOWN!).. It's not your god given right for them to make room for you..

Dashed line separating the two lanes which becomes no dividing lines along the length of the taper - This indicates a Merge in Turn condition. At which point regardless of lane, the vehicle who's nose is in front has right of way..

Hey mate I have bad news for you with the lane Splitting if your in Melbourne department of transport are against it we had 3 risk engineers from DOT measure all the shared tram/roadways that become clear ways and they had a few issues there one also mentioned that they were also having trouble with some OD2 routes
