I got suspended once for too many points.. Needed car for work so I enrolled in a driver defense course which was run at a police youth centre in Sydney. It went for ages and you couldnt miss any classes but in the end I went to court and the magistrate reduced the suspension from 3 months down to 1. In the end it was sort of overkill because the class went for so many weeks but I learnt a lot.. Like they had people come in and speak who had been in serious accidents and how it stuffed their lives up etc.. You end up driving like miss daisy afterwards when you see that. Magistrate didn't care about anything I brought with me (letter from employer, personal references etc..) he made his decision solely on the drivers course.

One of the people who spoke at the course was a lawyer and he was saying some judges are much more lenient than others on driving issues so try to get your case moved to a court which has that reputation (you can use work as an excuse) - However, it's no guarantee because you don't know what magistrate you'll get.

The trouble in your case is they take 30km+ a lot more seriously than a standard suspension from too many demerit points, don't expect a sympathetic magistrate.

1 last point: If an RTA representitive comes up to you before the hearing make sure you don't tell him anything (like what you've prepared), it's their job to go against you on the day.
