which dealer did you buy it off? I got mine straight from the auctions for 23k, a bit steep of a price as there were 3 people bidding tht really badly wanted the car. I probably spent 2k too much, but it was in heaps better condition then the normal white marked ones, mine was an unmarked/undercover ex cop

I bought it from peninsula Expensive Daewoo in condell park.

Looks to be in great condition

Hey guys, new to the forums and after some honest feedback from all of you experienced with the fantastic barra!

Straight to the point, I have a budget of MAX $13k to spend on my next car. Now initially, I was adamant it would be an older rex, either a '99 or '01. I was certain to find a good one within that price range, as I'm pretty fussy and would rather spend a bit more to get a good example rather than going tight and 'just' scrapping in to a later model for the same cash.

Now that brings me to my big question to you guys.......can I get away with spending $12-13k on a first gen XR6T and have it treat me well, or am I better off to save more (hard atm) and get a minimum BF with the 6 speed man, as opposed to the BA's 5 speed. I know the BA 2 is a 6 speed, but many of them exceed $13k too, unless it has 150000km's +, which will inadvertently have it's issues anyway. AHHHHHH, I'm lost, please, any feeddback would be much appreciated.

Note, I treat my cars well, I rarely snap through gears, and only occasionally give it some decent revs. My cars tend to have a pretty easy life. The most I'd do mod wise is basic breather mods like exhaust, filter, and tune. Not chasing much more than 300kw at the motor

Nothin wrong with ex chaserrs... loved mine to bits. In better running order than majority of xr6ts in sa coz normal consumers are f-wits who dont look after theyre cars generally anyway. ..

Buy what u can afford , but be aware things do go wrong and will cost

First gen ba with t5 is junk but if your a nanna it can last, the 4speed auto at stock power is fine

Bf's are alot better but still getting on now so its a flip of the coin really

BF. The gearbox is better. You should be able to score one easy enough - but 13 is a bit low. The K's - can't do much there except see how it drives.

WRX - yeah. Great on the road - but the earlier gearboxes on those things all feel like glass to me and really, they are a different package to a big sedan.

Time for a third job??????

Ye wirh this these clowns^^^ had all three cars... ba bf and early and late wrx...

I picked up my wrx 99 last of 99 with I <3 Bananas all kays nearly new condition all over 200kws at all 4 gorgeous car looked for ages to find one... cost 12.5k....

However blew the box...that was a couple grand job...

For 13k all turbos iv seen are in chit condition or just not great...

Either way u chose id personally save a few more $$$..coz chit will go wrong...

Out of all three id buy another bf2 in a heart beat...

Id buy another 99...

Probably wouldnt bother with ba as bf completely topped it with the zf for me...

Same old story, 13k will get you a plumb BA or a thrashed BF. Unless you get very very lucky with the BF. Whats your running cost/maint budget like? Any B series in the 13k bracket is going to need some maintenance to get it up to scratch and is going to have high running costs.

I think you can either buy a BA and spend money over time fixing things that break or save a bit more and at least go for a BF. The internals will be fine for 300 at the fly but both the manual and auto boxes are much better than in the BA

But as J@ said even the BF is getting old now but if that's all you can afford then buy within your limits

Are you looking at a car around the $12000 to $13000 mark and then pay the insurance and transfer of rego with the cash left over or you have money set aside for it?

As for your mods to get to the 300 mark it could cost around another $2000 or even more with the BA, if your not in a hurry you should keep looking and try for a later model.

In saying that I have a 5speed BA and I love it. I am spending some $$$$ to get it the way I want it, but it comes down to you and what you feel is right.
