Stuff buying an ex demo. They are all raped. End of story.

If they are proper demonstrators then yes, but often dealers will register a few extra vehicles to meet their sales targets...but then just sit them on the lot and not let them leave the yard until sold. But yeah given the one the OP is looking at has 1000km on it then I'd be cautious.

One there with 7km on it for the same price, or one with similar kms but $34k.

Shop around and use these other vehicles to bargain. Everyone has there own theories but I'd recommend at least shaving 10% off the list price and aim for that. Don't ever let the fckers know that your unsure about pricing otherwise they'll be on to you like flies on fresh sh*t.

My wife's car was a 'demo' with 34kms on the clock.. Had been registered and was one of the salesmen's cars.. So unless he lived 200m from work in assuming it didn't get used much.. Knocked nearly 9 grand off the new price though as it'd been registered for 4 weeks..

If demo has over 500kms on clock then yes raped...

Been on test drives with wankers... sales people as well driving... Often are used as service loan cars as well...

I would know... I'm the ass who thrashes them...

Tab is spot on... Demos are registered for no reason sometimes depending on the manufacturers bonuses that month sometimes never driven...

Also 3/10 demos (the ones wit kms) have had damage repaired on them because of how long they have sat in yard and been bumped or scraped or dumb customers parking them fukd...

Unless its an undriven demo like what panda got then I would be extremely cautios...

Also they can say it was someone's demo who is old or a service manager or whatever but they get passed around like a 50c hooker regardless.

I took a ve ss ute home for a weekend once... Went to muldura and back and then did skids (on private road) and went on a cruise.

That was sold as a demo with 4500kms

Same as ex govy cars.. I tipped two govy cars on their sides.. And flogged the crappa out of every other one I drove..

But fluff is right.. When I was searching for cars I spoke to two different sales people about two different cars at the same dealership. Both told me they were the finance managers car.. Apparently he needed two cars..

There was nothing better as a 1st year apprentice at Ford in Brissy a number of years back, than being thrown the keys to a demo or loan car, especially anything with more grunt than an xr6, we use to flog those things until the brakes were useless and bellowing out smoke, it was almost like Bathurst, then take them back to the dealership and wash them, everyone was none the wiser, crashed a few aswell doing stupid sh*t and manage to get away with it.

Comes back to the old saying "Buyer beware"!

If possible do a background check of the car to see if it's been crashed or had warranty work done already in the 10000km it's done, will give you a better idea about the cars history.

If it drives well then I wouldn't let it bother me if I was you. A 2nd hand one with 10k would have had a few squirts too.

But go back in and refuse to pay a cent over 35. Make up any excuse you can.

And be prepared to walk! They'll call after a day, if not the same day even.

I put a 500 dollar deposite on it and signed the papers but its written down that its not 100% mine until I test drive it, they are buying it at the auctions so I wont drive it till another week and a half

what are key things to look for so I know if its been thrashed?

Check the brakes, as in run your finger down the brake rotor face and feel for grooving and feel if there is a "lip" on the outter diameter of the rotor, the face should be nice and smooth and no lip present, and check pad thickness if possible.

Have a look at the tyre tread wear, make sure the tread is wearing evenly across the whole width of the tyre, if one edge (inner or outter) of the tyre is worn, would indicate that car has been flogged a bit (hard cornering)

Listen for any rattles or creaks or knocks when at idle and on the test drive, especially from the exhaust and suspention areas, could indicate harsh driving episodes.

Have a look at the exhaust tip, with only 10000km on the clock it should still be pretty clean, if it's covered in black soot/crap, prob been flogged here and there

Check the rims for gutter rash, indicating useless f**k drivers hitting gutters when parking

Bounce your body weight on the quater panels of the car to work the suspension up and down, listening for lnocks or creaks

There are a bunch more things to look for that other Forum members maybe able to point out, these are just the basics to get a quick idea of the car, hope it helps

As above.. Also check inside the guards for rubber.. Street tyres throw alot of fine rubber which sticks like glue when doing burn outs..

Also you can check for suspension/body knocks and rattles by driving over a few speed bumps.. Listen for noticeable ticking in the engine bay and if you can check the compressor wheel in the turbo for any side to side play.

Depending on the kays this thing has you may still have new car warranty.. Of there were a few rattles and it was under warranty I wouldn't care too much.

1. It's not a demo coz they're buying it from auctions

2. Technically they are within they're rights to take some of your deposit if you pull out.

3. Be very careful as to why they're selling u a car they technically don't even own yet????
