HI Everyone

I am about to pick up my XR in a few days, and the dealer is trying to sell me some paint protection, Wynns Black label for $795

Has anyone used this or can recommend another protection?

Also does anyone know where the best place to get it done (in Sydney) is.

I have read a few posts that have suggested that some types of protection gets applied every year for a nominal fee and I like the idea of that. <_<

thanks in advance

from what I've heard it's a waste of money. Especially on blueprint. If I were getting a dark colour like phantom etc I'd get it but imo you don't really need it on lighter colours. it also depends on how long you keep the car for. We got paint protection on the AU and it is regency red and I can say it was a complete waste of money.

DON"T DO IT!!! I was in the same boat the dealer was offering me the same thing, actually more like force feeding me rather than offering, so before I decided I talked to a mate who applys this stuff at another car dealership and he says it's a total waste of money and massively over priced. He did admit it looks good, but the finish is nothing I couldn't achieve myself with some good wax and a lot less expense.

It's the same with me and Jarvis.....trying to sell me protection for $795

They call theirs 'astroglaze' - teflon apparantly

'Fabriguard' for the material inside the car...carpets...roof etc

and 'Vinylast' for the dash and seats (Leather).

It needs to be applied every 18 months. I'm still not convinced....as that can buy a $%^k load of products.....meguires for example...hehe

Just stick with a good quality wax to protect your car. I've had my (yes WRX) car for over 4 years and the paint work is still great (champagne silver). It started with Meguiars Yellow wax and then I ended up using a Swissol wax.

Good friend of mine who owns a panel shop in Darwin always said if you want to pi$$ your money up against a wall get it, otherwise invest in some good wax.

Now a 3M treatment for the interior would be worth it, specially if you've got rugrats.

Cheers

When I worked for Holden (long time ago lads) we used to apply Ming. It was $$$hundreds.

It looked good. Then A few years back I was given bottle of that $15 polish from K Mart. It smells EXACTLY the same and is the same colour as Ming.

DON'T.

Go to meguiars.com.au and get a personal recommendation for your car, colour and conditions. And if you're too lazy to do it yourself, go to a detailer every 6 months/year and pay $150 to get the car detailed.

I am now using

Wash: Meguiars Gold Class Wash

Prep: Meguiars Scratch X

Wax: Meguiars Hi Tech Yellow Wax

#1 rule, make sure your product is applied and removed correctly.

Hey Andrew you forgot a step between the paint prep and the wax, the polish :) Also instead of the Scratch X which is a mild abrasive is the Paint Cleaner or a Clay Bar, I find the Clay Bar easier to use than either the Paint Cleaner or Scratch X, it gives the paint that wonderful smooth feel, a terry towel cloth should glide across the roof and not stop if the paint is truly clean.

The wax is just the protective layer, the polish is what will give you the shine.

Another tip that is really good is to finish up with some Meguiars Final Inspection or Quick Detailer when you've finished.

Just a note, this is something I do every 6 months or so to my car.

Cheers

bwhinnen,

Shouldn't you Polish after you wax ? I've Polished after Waxing on my wifes scooby doo and it looks tops <_<

Correct me if I've applied it in the wrong sequence.
