That sounds like good economy from the T3! Is it a TS or a TE?

It's a TE. I'm very pleased with the engine's overall performance, just can't fault it. The engine was really why I bought the car. Pity about the gearbox ...

I was told that a car uses more fuel idling than driving (conservatively), does anyone know if this is true? In the 1500 odd km I've done in my XR6T the average economy is 13.4l/100km. Probably 60 -70 % highway driving. Always on PULP, mostly with A/C on.

It's not so much that it uses more fuel while idling as you're not going anywhere so you're theoretical l/100 is infinite - because you're not moving, if you know what I mean.

Well I was the same as you. I didn't think the lock up worked on any gear except top. I don't believe the auto has progressed far from the Ef (last ford auto I owned). Lock up came in in forth only. There was a cold temp lockout preventing it from working. The other auto I have experience on is from ZF. No lock up on gears below top and it required a certain road speed to be achieved. With the sports shift this may have changed.

there is convertor lock up in 3rd and 4th gears in the auto. when using the sports shift its still there as well I think. anyone watch there tacho all the time. lockup only drops the revs about 200rpm in top.

HSE2> the EFs had lock up in 3rd and 4th. If it was used in power mode however the lockup would drop out very quickly - in econ mode it works really good as does the SSS.
