Cost us an extra$1500, oh well its only money hey?

Because we went for premium brakes we had to cough up another $300 for the spare alloy also. It will all be worth it though.

Cant wait!!

You know, it's not the initial cost of upgrading to the 18s that have stopped me from considering them - it's the replacement cost of the tyres!

Firstly welcome, you will find this a great forum for info, and just having fun :)

l cant really give you a figure for 17's except to say thay are significantly cheaper than 18's. Now that more manufacturers are using this size the price should come down. Unfortunatly Expensive Daewoo use 235/40 and Ford 245/40, the 235's are more common, but of course you could go for the slightly smaller width anyway.

l went through the exercise with 18's last week as we just sold our car, 245/40/18's

The Dunlops originally fitted to the car were $550ea

Many great tyres available in $430-$460 range, Pirelli, Yokohama etc

Went for Kumho 712's at $299ea. These are a good compromise tyre which the buyer was happy with.

17's are maybe 30-40% cheaper on average tan their 18" equivalent, l think Mr Plow, who is a regular here, works at a tyre place, he may be able to jump in on this thread with a better idea.

Yeah that's for the XT and other models and are 17" x 8" 225/50's. The XR has upgraded (XR exclusive) IRS and comes standard with 17" x 8' 235/45 tyres

I did a ring around and 17" 235/45 to suit the XR6 start at about $175/tyre and go up from there. The skys the limit depending on the performance you want.

BTW welcome!

asked for a 03 build  I didnt get a choice :( When did you order?
