Dont ask how I know. Excessive heat in parts changes crystalline structure of metal. This makes them brittle. Cracks occur & moisture in pipes accellerates corrosion. Stainless or steam pipe bends are generally fine. Apply damp & wrap from rear/bottom to front/top to stop leading edge of wrap lifting in airflow. Go ceramic coating (in & out) where ever possible. I have a heap of wwrap coming in but my system is mild :/ This stuff reckons it doesn't need water to wrap it. Spose it won't make a difference though.Generally how long until it'll crack/bugger up. And don't say how long's a piece of string

My guess is the wrap would of cost ya less than 50bux, just because you bought it doesn't mean you cant change your mind.

I done a bit of a search on here and it was mixed opinions. Same people claimed that heat wrapping the headers caused them to crack.I might do a bit of DIY brackets for the shields but also do the wrapping. What kind of stuff did you use? I could imagine the glass fiber stuff being itchy, thanks for the heads up!hey buds when I wrapped my headers I pretty much overlapped half of the wrap each way going along til I reach the ends then stainless zip tied the ends off..then repeat the process for the rest..be aware that some you may need to dummy up and then cut to size before wrapping and tying down..also the water shrinks the wrap so alway allow a little extra at the ends..ive wrapped alot of my cars and never in there whole life have they cracked for me,never!ive bought this stuff of fleabay and have bought so many from him that I wont doubt it.cheap and depending on what car you may need a couple of rolls as ive used it on my v8's with pacies & difillipo's etchttp://www.ebay.com....=item4cffffdfc1

Impellor Member 835 Member For: 14y 8m 13d Gender: Not Telling Posted 29/11/12 12:24 AM Share Posted 29/11/12 12:24 AM (edited) Thought I should do a little investigating into the subject. Now I haven't spent hours, but the general consensous is that exhaust wrap should not be used on cast iron applications. Based on the premise, that during the casting process there are wall inconsistencies. What ocurs is the thinner areas of the casting will crack. The thinner areas become hot spots, so the heat distribution becomes uneven, causing the cast iron to crack. Stainless steel has no problems at all, as far as I can see.Cheers Edited 29/11/12 12:30 AM by Impellor
