My Car Stalled Today

Surely FMC provide some details on the software upgrades, what they fix etc - standard practice?

Is this for all T's or just those experiencing specific problems? -

worries me that they could be de-tuning the vehicles from the rockets originally tested by the car journos back at launch time, to minimise potential warranty issues surfacing - paranoid!! 

The information regarding what the calibrations do is delivered to the dealer network via Fordstar broadcasts which dont resume until February.The discs themselves are sent from the US and aren't supplied with any details regarding their contents.

These new calibrations are for the entire BA range of vehicles and possibly for all the imported models as well.

As for the new cals "de-tuning" your beasts,I strongly doubt that.But then again who knows

xr6ikness,Yes you should be able to reflash even those fitted with Unichips.The Unichip is a stand alone component that doesnt actually comunicate with the WDS so it shouldnt be a problem(If in doubt,take it out)

One thing I must point out though,when I had the WDS plugged into 100%'s ute at Heathcote it had trouble actually identifying the original PCM in his vehicle when I selected Module Identification from the diagnostic menu.

That sounds like a good idea. For so long (sorry going back through the ranges to EA here) Ford didn't provide detail of what a cal change was supposed to fix or change. That left the poor blokes in the dealerships changing calibrations (whole PCM's in those days) without knowing if it would fix it. The Holden (sorry for swearing ) guys would just look down their list and go "Nope, that's not a return to idle fix calibration, it's to solve the torque converter clunk" or something. I hope Ford Technical (not FORDTECH) keeps the flow of information up as I have no doubt that it saves them money in warranty in the long and short term. :banghead: and helps us all.

have noticed stalling only occurs when approaching intersections and putting into neutral (manual) with a/c on.it seems it doesn't want to idle propely . I guess it is due to high temps. I live in alice springs.

I had been wondering what you guys have all been whinging about, until today....Now I can appreciate all your frustrations.

Was out driving today, approaching a 90 degree left turn, when all of a sudden found I couldn't steer, or break, and was heading straight over the intersection into other cars.

Holy *hit...what the hell was happening, before I realised the car had stalled. With my wife, and 3 month old baby daughter in the back for a moment I was scared.

I can't recall exactly, but this happened whilst the car was in gear, or just during a gear change (manual). Either way, it just shouldn't happen.

Now, being this is a known issue, and if I had been unfortunate to have been in an accident, could I legally sue Ford for 100's of thousands of dollars for not initiating a recall, or notifying consumers of a known issue ?

I had another stall 3 days ago (4th Ive had since April).

Worst of all, it happened as I was approaching a roundabout in Mt Martha, with a P plater in his loud Late model camira behind me! He had made an effort to catch up and tailgate me. I was just taking off to go into the roundabout when it died. I whacked the indicator on and rolled to the left reeeeally slowly, hoping like hell he didnt realise I had stalled! Once he went on straught, I started it up again.

That sucked, I was looking forward to showing them what the XR6T can do around a corner at the next traffic lights.

2 weeks ago, I was approaching the Gateway bridge when the engine felt like it was running on only 4 pots. I could just keep the engine running by keeping the revs up. I took the Port of Briz exit and pulled over. I tried to restart it but is was still running very rough. I rang Ford Roadside assistance and the lady casually said to take the keys out of the ignition, lock the car, unlock the car and then re-start it. It ran perfectly! She said it has happens to quite a few BA's and locking the car resets the computer

How did all the Brissie guys go yesterday in the 40+ degrees? Any additional stalls or rough runnings on first startup?

[You know it's getting serious when the tuners are getting concerned.]

(Please Mr. Polites, can we have some Ford support before you go??? I'll even try to program it for the FMC Engineers if you need me to. Now where's that software for Visteon/Ford again)

Hi Lachlan

My car stalled on Saturday. Stopped at a red light. The car was still warming up ( 1/4 on temp ). The car just stopped.......felt like ignition cut. Started up again and all normal.

Hopefully Ford will have a fix soon.

Mine stalled once on Saturday and once on Sunday. The high humidity on Sunday knocked the top of the turbo's power
