Something for you guys to check yourselves.Had one today with an irratic idle and a leaking radiator. When I went to replace the radiator I discovered that you have to move the intercooler to access one of the air cond condensor bolts. Some wally had fitted the hose clamp to the intercooler hose upside down so I had to remove the right hand headlight assy and found that the earth wire's that are secured under the aluminium tube under the battery were loose. So I tightened them up and finished fitting the radiator. When I started the car up again it idled spot on.An easy way to find the wires I'm talking about.Look down between the RH headlight and the battery(Where the boost pressure sensor is)and the earth wires should be secured under the bolt that holds the aluminium tube.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that FORDTECH. Man, its great having an advocate from the ford workshop on these forums...keep up the good work FordTech. :hiwelcome:

Unfortunately Santa didnt bring the new PCM calibrations that are supposed to address this problem. It is a known problem that is rectifiable by reflashing the PCM but the calibrations are still in transit (so to speak) and waiting certification.I also dont exactly know what the actual problem is so am unable to comment. From what I've heard around the traps is something to do with the canister purge and the fuel tank vent system flooding the engine on idle down causing them to stall.

MIne has been doing the near stalling thing for about 3 months or so now (didn't do it for the first 35000klms, then started... weird). Always when the A/C is on. It has been back to Ford about it 3 times now and all they keep doing is replacing the purge valve saying that it is faulty. I keep telling them that this will not fix it (the codes are for purge valve sticking), but they insist in replacing the thing and sending me on my way. They claim that they know nothing about the ECM update, so I guess I'll just keep waiting until our mate fordtech tells us that it is available and I will get onto them again. This is a lot painful as I am waiting for this to be sorted before I go for an upgrade!! Please Mr Ford, get your a@se into gear....

My T did this again yesterday so the original story provided by my dealer's service dept was just a pork pie to keep me satisfied. I had a little chat with the workshop foreman today and he claimed to not be aware of this problem. After sprouting all the technical stuff in Fordtech's post "is something to do with the canister purge and the fuel tank vent system flooding the engine on idle down causing them to stall" whatever that means???? he said " who told you that? the XR6 turbo forum? they seem to know more than us" he then contacted Ford and called me back and advised the new version of S/W will be available in about 4 weeks time so they will call me once they receive it and hopefully this can be fixed once and for all.

Driving yesterday with the AC on, had to brake a little (and I mean very little) harder than normal as the car in front made a last minute decision to turn right and after 16,000 kays I joined the "auto that stalls" club. Started her again and off she went.

I'll ask about any S/W update when I take the T back for the 5-6 minor but getting very annoying noises/rattles it's developed.

My idle is starting to wonder when the A/C is on. 18k, When I took the air box out to fit the under head light breather,I found an earthing point not screwed down and the actuall tek screw just lying there,so I screwed it in...slack...

That is a wise chioce, if you attempt an upgrade with a Ford ecu fault in the car I can guarantee you that you will eventually go completely mad from frustration. Then you will be subscribed Stalazine (an extremely strong anti psychotic medication) and need at least a one month stay in an adult psychiatric unit. :smilielol::smilielol:

OK Guys,Santa came today with a nice 2 disc set of updated calibrations for your vehicles. So it's HO HO HO off to the dealer you go and to all good luck.(I'm assuming that every other dealer got theirs as well)

No info on what the calibrations do or what the original problem was/is but these new cal's supposedly fix it.

Let us know how you all go.
