We find it hard to believe that Ford test these cars before release in high temperatures in Outback Northern Australia, driving them very hard, and supposedly they never had any of these problems whilst a number of us have the problem when not flogging the car and the temp is only in the mid 30s.My car has only stalled once, not long after I got it. Iwas driving from Bathurst heading towards Blue Mtns along the highway doing 110km/h with CC on and all of a sudden it just died for no reason. Pulled over and tried to restart but the car would not run, it sounded like the carby was flooded to the max or similar, mkissing and pooping and farting. I tried to ring Ford Roadside Assist but had no mobile coverage. It was a high 30 deg temp day. I waited about 5 mins and then tried to restart and it was fine then! Same happened with MS700s car yesterday.

Guest rabbit Guests Posted 05/01/04 01:16 AM Share Posted 05/01/04 01:16 AM I've been complaining about this for 6 mths. Ford have advised there's an ECU update due in late January that should correct this problem. Start annoying your dealers now.

No pattern other than when in traffic or other slow speeds. Not heat or air/con related. It has happened since new right through to 26k. Local dealer cannot fix so I'm hopeful that the rumoured upgrade will fix the problem.Till then, #@**+*#!! and

I took into the dealers last Friday, they tell me they updated the ECU with the latest version of software which they told me will overcome this problem. So far so good but only early days.Does anyone know how you can tell the version of software installed in the ECU?
Trumpy What's happening? Lifetime Members 1,605 Member For: 22y 21d Gender: Male Location: Steel City, NSW Posted 05/01/04 03:11 AM Share Posted 05/01/04 03:11 AM Mine hasnt stalled (recently ), but what has been happening a lot is the revs dropping to a point where the fire almost goes out.Situation: Pulling up to a traffic light, slowing in 2nd (manual) with brakes. As I come to a stop, press clutch in (while still rolling) revs drop below 500RPM, and then the ECU realises its about to stall and blips it back up to 1500odd before settling to idle. You can actually feel the controls (steering, brakes)lose their power assistance as the engine almost dies.It has only started happening recently, which seems to coincide with the permanent use of the AC in the weather we have had since before christmas.Havent had a chance to have it looked at yet, but I am hoping that the ECU update will address. I'm wondering if its part ECU and part mechanical, such as some buildup of crap in the idle stepper or similar? The fault sounds almost like given a certain scenario the ECU is trying to close the stepper motor too quickly and thus it stalls.Does anyone who has had the ECU software upgrade know if it takes longer to settle back to idle than it did before?CheersBrett

Whether they did it or not is a little bit of a mystery because it is still as bad as ever................
