FPVF6355 Member 128 Member For: 13y 10m 29d Posted 14/11/12 09:54 PM Share Posted 14/11/12 09:54 PM I had a tune about a year ago and had a 4" cat fitted same time. car ran great.Over time ecconomy got worse, performance was dying, "system too rich" fault always showing on XCAL 3Also started making a whistling sound at low boost.Fuel ecconomy reached 17lt / 100K'sI suspected the cat was blocking up, so to be sure before spending money on a new cat and tune, I punched it.Fuel ecconomy dropped to 12.5Lt / 100 K'sPower came back with a vengence.Whistle noise went away.So if I am burning 25% less fuel, therefore 25% less emissions, whats the point of a cat ?A cat is suppose to convert gases into more enviromently friendly gases, but they don't convert until the cat is hot, and highest concentration of gases are made when cold on start up.If a cat is fitted can I breath the exhaust fumes ? Carbon dioxide is the reason why exhaust gas is no good for people, however the trees love it and turn it back into oxygen. Trees can't do sh*t with carbon monoxide which is what is coming out of your exhaust with no cat.
