Hey guys, new to XR6T's and just wondering what considerations I need to take when playing with my new BA MkII Auto?

Im planning:

- FMIC kit (probably HDI)

- Valve Springs

- Injectors

- Fuel Pump

- Tune

- Trans Cooler

- CAI

My questions are:

- Whats the deal with this flapper mod? What is it and will I need to do it to get around the 350kw mark?

- Actuator spring or EBC? Do I need either? can I get away with just a boost controller?

- Tuning? wait til the very end? Any reputable places in Adelaide?

- Gearbox? Ive heard bad things about the autos. shift kit or just wait til it blows?

- Anything else ive missed that I will probably need so I dont kill my engine?

Any help is awesome :)

Cheers

Daimo

Valves Springs is a Must on BA XR6T. Also make the engine in best running condition e.g make sure all Ignition parts like Coilpacks are good, Spark plugs etc so the engine is running well

when it's time to make more power.

Helping the Transmission cool better is a good Idea. Best bet is to talk to some places that build performance boxes who are familiar with the XR6T and you can get some advice from them

on what power the stock box is reliable for.

As for performance mods goto websites like Nizpro etc CAPA and you will get the idea of what the first mods are to get some power. For best results its best to get your car tuned at a workshop so good idea, Flash Tunes can work sometimes and sometimes not so well.

As mentioned search function is a great place to start

You have no exhaust side mods listed so without them, good luck getting past 300 let alone 350. Minimum is a cat, but if after 350 I would do the whole exhaust.

And then because of the bigger dump you need to port the rear housing on the turbo and do the flapper mod to create a steady boost curve and to counter boost spike

You'll need a new actuator (prob 12 psi)

What to tune to the end. Use xcal3. Go to Heinrich or morepower (or however its spelt)

Don't worry about the engine or gearbox, they'll both blow up very soon on you. Rebuild the 4 speed. then when the engine snaps a rod, rebuild there too

Theres pretty much no security on your engine or box unless their both built, they will (not might, will) blow eventually with 350rwkw

yep- 4 speed auto will pop with 350 (or less)

ba bottom end will throw a rod sooner or later, so start saving for a new fg f6 short (3 grand) for when it does.

you do NOT need a flapper mod. a good tune will sort out any spikes. I havent bothered as yet.

stock f6 valve springs will do fine (cheap from 'fraud') if you dont put it on the limiter often. if you do it will be unsettled for a while after you have.

big dump pipe, big cat/s, twin 2.5" exhaust or single 3.5" (or bigger). dont need stainless system unless you want bragging rights. I recommend redback for an off the shelf system. aaa exhausts at mile end are who I use.

deka 60lb injectors or similar are a must.

do get the biggest intercooler system you can afford. I use rapid's system personally.

if you can afford a nice plenum (nispro, process west, nitto, etc) then do so .

also a surge tank is a necessity. process west is the way to go for this.

for more ideas go to the 300+ thread.

If you also do not find your money on tree branches, I'd just go 4" dump with a high flow cat... Full exhausts are not necessary imo. The dual factory system flows fine for atleast 350rwkw with or without replacing centre muffler with hotdogs.

Should have used the search function- apologies. So basically valve springs, dump and high flow cat, cooler, injectors and a tune should be enough to kill my gearbox?

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated :)
