Hey guys,

As per my sig I'm now in an FG MK2 G6ET, which I picked up about 3 months ago brand new. Since day dot the aircon hadn't worked. I raised this with Fraud at the 3k service and they pressure tested the system which lead them to find a leaking O-ring (or so they tell me) which they replaced and re-gassed the system. All good.

About 5 days after the service we had a couple of hot days in a row. I used the aircon both days which was nice and cold. A lot colder than my previous G6ET 50th Anniversary. The next day, that's when I started smelling coolant from the vents, even without the aircon or even any fans on.

I called Fraud to report the issue, and they said they would need the car for 3 days to pull the dash out, as it's most likely that they need to replace the heater core as I suspected. I asked the service guy if the pressure test that they did at the service was done at a too high PSI which has caused the heater core to fail. He strongly denied this.

I'm basically wondering if there's anyone else out there who have had their heater cores fail, especially at such low km.

Cheers,

CLuTZ

I would be very surprised if the heater core has failed. More likely you had the air on fresh and theres either a leak in the engine bay somewhere or residual/overflow from pressure testing.

It hasn't lost a single drop of coolant. I have very little faith in Ford's methods of diagnosing problems and levels of honesty, which is why I thought of discussing it on here first. It has now been 2 weeks since the problem started, and it's still there. It stinks. The only was of not smelling the coolant smell, is by shutting all the vents off.

Bionic is a ford mechanic mate haha.

Being still under warranty you unfortunately have to just bite the bullet and trust that your ford dealer knows what they are talking about

Is it still there after a day of driving in recircualted air?

Yeah it's been doing it on on recirc and fresh, for about 2 weeks now. Even with low fan speed or fans off. I hope you didn't take what I said about my local Ford dealer personally- have just had some far from positive experiences with them in the past.
