Fg Fuel System Upgrade For 300Rwkw

Hi all, am still uncertain what option to go with for safe fuel supply at only 300rwkw. There is lots of great info on fg fuel surge/cut at under 1/3 tank. Obviously the 044 and swirl is the most common solution although do not want pump noise inside car as I know it will piss me after a while. Can it be heard at idle or above? Love the new KPM intank but for only 300kw seems like major overkill.

Does anyone know if installing a walbro or similar intank pump will just improve fuel flow in l/hr or do these pumps sit a little different in tank and not suck air as easily? Im guessing not but worth asking to save a grand.

Cheers

In-tank pumps are generally a direct replacement of the standard pump where by it will only Increase LpH. I have a walbro Gss 292 or 294? that is rated to 275/300LpH and I'm running 360rwkw without a problem.

A surge tank in any case would be ideal but for a daily driver with the occasional squirt up the road, an in-tank pump will be fine for your fueling requirements.

** oh and I can hear my pump on occasion too, especially when it primes before I start the car

My previous FG ran the factory pump for the 3 years I had it and no issues with surge even when at the track. The swirl pot design is very good at keeping the pump supplied with plenty of fuel. If you want to go to a bigger pump for safety sake then a larger intank is the easiest and still remains legal but wont lessen the possibility of fuel surge if that's what you are concerned about. You'll just be able to supply more fuel to the rail. If you go down the path of a bigger intank then I'd suggest a Walbro 400, which is what I've fitted to my GT. Something you have to be wary of though when installing a big pump is your fuel rail pressure increasing which can increase the amount of fuel your injectors are supplying. You may need to upgrade your fuel reg or adjust your tune.

Benny.

^^ this. In terms of price your looking at $150-$200 for a walbro intank plus install, next option would be the KPM 460 module which is $900 plus install (but has anti-surge features) and then you consider surge tank with external pump (044 or the like) or the KPM 1000 module.

From the testing mick (ratter) did a couple of months ago it appears that at 300 the stock fg fuel pump can't quite handle it, even though it was a fair upgrade from the B series so I'd say its definitely worth upgrading. Personally I'm going for the KPM 460 module because it'll allow me to easily go e85 with the right injectors and for the extra 40rwkw(ish) you get from e85 alone, for a few hundred more on fuel pump and injectors its worth it. That's something to consider aswell

To add a some finer points to your question, when choosing a fuel system you should consider

noise

legality

Swirl pot incorporated / to supply cool fresh aerated fuel for maximum performance and power

maximum application demand and supply abilty to supply maximum demand at below 100%

no surge on maximum acceleration or cornering

ease of fitment

Correct fuel system pressures

Ability to run the fuel system correctly at near empty without surge or reduced supply

OEM quality and engineering ( value for money)

with many good quality internal and external fuel muddles available you need to consider that by the time that they are fitted do they meet all the above considerations and at what price.

KPM have met all these requirements with our complete fuel system packages;

our Walbro 460 module package that will happily run your vehicle to 350-400 rwkw

or

our Streetfighter 1000 Module that will run your vehicle up to 1000hp

Both packages meet all our fuel system requirements and work perfectly first time without any further additions to your fuel system. We can also supply the correct KPM550cc / KPM1000cc / KPM2000cc Injectors to complete your entire fuel system.

Additionally , both the Walbro 460 and Streetfighter modules work just as happily on a completely standard vehicle without any need for re-tuning.

I hope this helps explain and bring to light some further considerations.

Since when has aeration been a good thing?

Thanks for the great replies, Benny I am assuming always maintained 1/2 tank as I like many others have experienced fuel cut prior to finding this info. Since Ratter made it known supply is also marginal (low return flow from rail on his testing) well, get out the wallet.

I personally do want my fuel system legal which is why I like the KPM module and somehow missed the KPM460, so this is the type of product I am after.

Thanks for the quick and detailed responses.
