Hi,

I have just picked up my second new F6 ute (Vanish blue) and fourth turbo ute and wanted to make sure I sorted the rear traction problems straight up.

I have fitted 8.5 & 9.5 Icon zest (black), I have used the original 245/35x19 Dunlop Sport Maxx on the front and on the back I have fitted 275/30x19 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1. These tyres are a cross between a normal high performance tyre and a targa style tarmac tyre. The rear grip in the dry is fantastic - I can now accelerate out of corners without getting all twitchy in the rear end. Have only had limited wet weather driving on these tyres but they felt pretty good. Also, in my opinion they are the best looking tyre I have ever had on my cars.

I think they are only available in Australia from Stuckey Tyres in Melbourne who is a specialist racing tyre stockist. Check them out on the Stuckey Tyres website as I dont know how to add a link.

Tell me what you think ! - oh - by the way, they are not cheap (about $570 each)

I had em on my old turbo subie, Stuck like sh*t to a blanket. Altho for track days I highly suggest getting the tires shaved a bit.

I found brand new tread with those tires to fall apart pretty easily, chunks missing etc.

I was in Adelaide on the week-end telling my brother in law how good I thought my Dunlop Direzza Z1 tyres are and he has a mate with a GT 335 who ran 12.2 on standard rears (not sure what rwkw) and he swapped his rears for 275/30x19 Direzza Z1's and did nothing else and ran a 10.8 - I put a post on a while ago about these tyres but I don't think many people have tried them as there was not many comments. My ute is just a stock F6 310 but these tyres don't really slip even with the traction off and stalled up to 2000 rpm plus the big claim by the manufacturer and many American forums is that you don't need to warm them up - almost max grip is there from the start which I have also noticed.

Has anyone had a similar result with these or other tyres?

He said the dealer who sells them in Adelaide is really starting to sell a lot of them now.

I bought mine in Melbourne and I think they are only available from one motorsport dealer in Adelaide, Melbourne and maybe other states (I don't really know)

Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks...

I spoke to my brother in law again and he said 420 rwkw so maybe that's it - no traction with the standard Dunlops.

They are also known as Star Specs.

My ute is new so not sure what time it would run but what should I expect standard with 275's with good grip ?

Also the Bilstiens I run on the rear have lower compression and higher rebound so may aid with rear weight transfer if I give it a run at the drags.

Thoughts...

Was 12.2 his only run? Or was he running low 12s all day?

I ask because if was his only run, maybe he learned to peddle after it also.

No doubt they improved his et. But from 12.2 to 10s is a massive improvement.

He mustve skated for 350m.

Best to try to get the time slips for comparison.

Generally I'd say you'd want a few runs under both both tyres to get a best run, as it is very easy to have a bad run, or not do something well.
