I would recommend the Peter Finlay site, and also call on 02 9873 1773, as he does group courses at sites other than Oran Pk based on numbers and specific needs.

He would also be worth a call for individual Advanced driver Training through to CAMS licence requirements.

Enjoy :sleepystuff:

Are you guys wanting to do a high performance day or a driver training day? (ie - do you want to do hot laps, or do you want to learn car control, break and recovery techniques, and understeer / oversteer correction??)

If its the latter, there are quite a few companies that do courses at Nirima Tafe (they have a skid pan out the back).

Its heaps of fun, and can cost from $150 - $200.

Murcott had a deal in Dec - that the courses were $99, but everyone I told this about didnt seem interested (not mentioning any names MISSXR)

If its a high performance day you are after, they are usually around $250 - $350 at oran park.

Any FPV-Tickford club members will get discounts from the drive days done by the Australian Academy of Motorsports. (they do both high performance, and "drive to survive" days as well as customised days.

My 2 cents on this one is that I would like tomlearn how to drive my car.. ie not a beemer.

The wakefield idea sounds good as it only a short trip down from Sydney.

I would also like to learn how to control my car better and not just race around on a track for a day, so the training is more important to me than "hot laps"

anyway... just my 2 cents worth.... and that's about all I will have left after I pick up the T on thursday!

I would definately be in this. I have been contemplating doing the full course with Ian Luff at Oran park for some time. Just saving for my dad and brother to come along as well. (promised chrissy present). To do the 3 courses from memory was about 800. But that was over 3 days and gave you the prerequisits for a CAMS license. COrrect me if I'm wrong there.

But anyways, most important thing is the dank mobeele would be there with bells on :)

I would be more interested in a course that lets you drive your own car, and a driver "training" event would be what we're looking for - some theory/instruction and then the chance to put it into use.

If this could be arranged, then we're in for both of us!

The FPV course is run by John Bowe's company -> http://www.johnbowedriving.com/

He seems to use both Eastern Creek and Wakefield Park.

Let's not forget the interstate guys as well... If we can do a deal with a national organisation, then we may be able to leverage some extra discounts for other cities as well.

I wonder if John Bowe could be persuaded to run a version of his FPV course for us T fanatics ?

Most driver training organisations that I've seen tend to have a series of courses, starting with a mandatory "entry level" course which is more focussed on classroom theory , with very little "on-road" practical exercises  . If we can get enough interest, maybe we could find someone that could tailor a course suitable for a group with a range of driving skills ? :banghead:

I too would love to do this if it is in Canberra...

Question: I would like to do it in my car

Hands up how many people will have a problem with that?

*starts counting*

P.S. With the insurance thing, if you get one of the approved insurance company deals then no problems right? And don't some insurance companies offer FREE driver training to people in certain age categories?

AAMI do offer free courses to drivers under 25... Or they charge $150 to drivers over that age to go on one of their courses.

These are basic car control theory and practice courses and are an excellent introduction. They're not really any different tot he first stage defensive drivers courses...

My vote is to do a course on a Pan or open area rather than on a track itself. Open pans only have soft targets if you really f*ck it up... They're also better at holding water to keep speeds etc down unlike circuts that are designed to shed water asap....

A.

I have emailed Wakefield Park twice, but I havent got a reply as yet. Does anybody actually "know" anybody down at Wakefield?

I also will be contacting Ian Luff and Peter Findlay later on this week, now that the Nats are over I have some spare time!
