Thought I'd update, decided to check all connections from battery back and found one of my crimped lugs was loose, pulled on it and cable slid straight out. Bought a new battery terminal and reconnected wires up and all good, even starts perfectly when hot as. The loose cable must of been creating excessive resistance. Sooooo glad I didn't change starter motor :)

are the 100 dollar starters on ebay any good? has ford seriously not changed the starter for the last 40 years?

was that causieng any effects on performance? fuel econamy?
