Hi all,

Got an fg xr6 turbo with zf. It's running rapid v1.0 kit, 60lb seimens, muffler delete and modified airbox, and 100 cell cat.

Took my car in to get tuned last week and had an issue of not making normal boost levels 1.1 duty cycle on the boost solenoid which should produce around 14 psi. The car only made 11.8psi max and the car was also very laggy on making boost. I was told the issue is was in the exhaust side so wastegate, actuator or exhaust as the intake was smoke tested with no leaks.

I have a feeling is wastegate or actuator related as when I bought the car it had a 12psi actuator fitted an I was having with the car intermittently making no boost. This was fixed by turning the car off then back on. I then refitted the original actuator and the problem was gone. But now the car is not making boost the way it should on the dyno.

Was thinking of refitting the 12psi actuator and doing the wastegate flapper mod. Any recommendations on if it will fix the issue?

Cheers.

I had a similar issue with mine. Tuner told me that the cooler and pipework are too big for the little turbo to fill. This may or may not be true I don't know. For reference I had Rapid V2 kit and xforce 4" dump on top of what you have. Does it start with 14 and then when the car starts using it fall off to 12?

Oh dear, I'd be looking for a different tuner in this case.

Benny.

Considering the same tuner has now got me 455rwkw I'd say I'm doing ok lol. Makes sense if you ask me. Smaller FG turbo with 3" hotside, 2.5" coldside and a massive cooler is a big area to fill.

The tuner mentioned he didn't think the exhaust sounded right but the cat is only 10000kms old on a car that was standard bar the cat.

I intend on checking that out.

I also don't know if I believe the cooler being too big. There is plenty of Fgs out there with this kit and I don't think they are having this problem...

I will look around though...

Anyone had a wastegate issue that caused a similar problem...

Thanks for all the replies..

As I said in my post I'm not sure if true or not. All I know is that I couldn't really get boost past 12psi. Since then I have changed my turbo, put on a 4" catback and changed my 80 pound injectors for 1000cc ones with E85 and presto no problems with boost at all. I have heard of a couple having the same issues but I can't remember specifics.

By changing your turbo and exhaust at the same time that would of made it hard to determine what got you your boost back.

Im running a Nizpro cooler (3inch hot/cold) and small turbo..stock exhaust apart from 4inch dump and cat and it boosts its tits off!!!

Pac23 ..mate Id definitely get your cat looked at 1st. You say only 10000kms ..but anything can happen..doesnt take much to melt or dislodge cat internals. There are so many variables.

A leaking actuator possibly

Cheers

That is true, however when I had boost issues the actuator was changed to a 15 psi from a 12 and the exhaust was dropped. The old actuator was kept when the turbo was changed. The only significant difference was the turbo. Seems a strange coincidence. Will be interested to hear the outcome, keep us posted.

PS Are you sure Nizpro is 3" hotside? Seems a bit excessive
