How good are these engines!

I agree stock 300rwkw, is fantastic power from the GT.

Even more impressive , is the power delivery. This is something that cannot be described and needs to be driven to appreciate.

Although still very impressive, the GS models at approx 260-270rwkw are easily uptuned to achieve the same GT power delivery.

As soon as I saw a reply from KPM I thought 'here we go these boys will change my mind" -

I just wasnt expecting the performance from this thing stock. Ive done a filter and that's it (I really felt the difference there too!!)

Ill see what happens after a few thousand K's, but I just cannot describe how much I love the way this thing drives. Anyone considering a new FPV S/C needs to drive one... that is all.

I too agree that they hammer for standard car with 300rwkw but will say that my ol XR6T with around 320rwkw would demolish it thou.Different kind of power but sounds friggin awesome. :declare:

Sometimes I feel my car is quite strong but other times I feel it needs more. I think the biggest issue is the torque management at lower speeds. Having this feeling has convinced me that tuning is the right thing to do which will be happening in the next few weeks. One of the main issues I can see with this is it's pretty much a given that the 0-100 times will be affected resulting in more wheel spin and slower times. Taking this into account I plan to utilise the 3 available tune locations to reduce power so the car can still be used for differing applications.

Yeah fair call Benny!! - What sort of numbers will you be looking for in a tune?... will you want to go a little safer and keep it around the 350-360rwkw mark?

I think much more than that requires injectors anyway....

Say for example in a roll on drag race,

What would a GT with approx 400rwkw be equal to in terms to a turbo?

400= mid 11s, so equal to a T with a maxed little turbo ad zf, or a 370+ (people will e scurrying to find best time vs kw but avg street car I'm talking about)

Then again in a roll on the turbos going to bake tires and the 8 will be goooone.

Good Morning

In preparation , what I have learned , is that the power levels for the GT in standard trim is around 270rwks, a dyno tune pulls them up to 360rwks at a cost of ~$1800.. There are small gains in cat back exhaust system of around 5 to 10 rwks .. Upping the blower speed does very little and same of intercooling - although helpful as confirmed earlier by KPM .

Others with first hand experience , will be able to shed a more accurate summary of costs - v - rwks - v - reliability .

I for one , am keen to hear from those in the know , and whom have moved away from standard trim to modded

Cheers

Reliabilty is a big factor for me. I tuned my FG ute without thinking. Purely because it was half the price of my GT. I am abit hesitant to tune the GT. would hate for for a few things to go wrong and be up for big bucks because my warranty has has a line put through it.
