For anyone who is interested, 'I've been told' that the best way to replace oil pump gears is to drop both the engine and gearbox out as one. this saves a sh*t load of time unbolting and realigning the engine to the gearbox. supposedly turns a full day job into a 3 hour job for an experienced mechanic. this could be entirely incorrect but if it saves some people some coin then well and good.

Could it be done in place if the radiators are removed?

mine was done with engine in place, radiator out and sump has to come off as well, so cross member has to be dropped. mine had lost half a tooth on the bottom timing gear and broken a chain guide so changed oil pump while motor was pulled down

Yeah mate if you like to rev your motor hard like I do you should get them done. Not worth blowing them like I did. Car is sitting outside dead until next week when my tuner could get me in. Don't even want to think about what it's gonna cost me :(

just curious, was your oil at normal operating temperature?

I had it turned off after some hard driving and left the hood up for about 15-20 mins to cool then turned it back on, thrashed it a minute later and it went.. Oil temp was still at normal operating temp too when I did it
