Hi guys, I know it all comes down to personal preference, but I have about 1.5k - 2k to fool around with on my stock BA XR6T and am currently tossing and turning between the options of

1. Installing a sound system or;

2. Tuning the car

Just thought I'd get all your opinions on what you as a driver prefer over the other.

cheers

Kev

Install the sound system for 2k And be done with it. Tune it and 2k will turn into 10k when the bug bites

Tune it up!!...

I like my sound, but if I had to make the call it would definitely be tune...

Plus when you tune it, you wont want you music too loud youll just wanna here your turbo spool up louder! theres your music.

Well if it was up to me, I would get a tune. For me 2k spending money doesnt come round much, if ever.

Once u get a tune, spend 400 bucks and get a sub, that's all these cars need to satisfy me sound wise.

But I suppose the ultimate question is what do you plan to do later performance wise. If 6 months down the road u want to go and put an exhaust on and bigger injectors, then a tune now will be a waste of $800-$1000.

Just my 2c, but something to think about.

Like Ma9 says.... 2G will get u a few mods..not enough.....and then the fun begins..and the breakages.

Is that 2G aconsistant xtra??? or just a one off.

One off it would be a stereo for mine.

just spend 800 on sound system..10inch sub, front and back speakers...keep the stock face..and get a sub with built amp..(this is watt I did,sounds awesome) ....then you should have left over for other stuff...

I was going to go for performance but I thought ahhh its already fast and I only drive it to work not track

My arguments for both sides are as follows;

1. Installing the sound system because I'm sick of listening to the radio, haha. I'm not looking at a crazy system, something I will be happy with - If I take this option, I was looking at getting:

1x Kenwood KAC-M526 2 CH Amp

1x Kenwood KAC-M646 4 CH Amp

1x JVC CS-HX7158 7x10" Speakers

2x Kenwood KFC-55793 5x7" Speakers

1x JVC KW-R400 USB CD Player

2. Tuning would be for the weekend drives and/or midweek taking it to the track with my mate who drives a SS and is constantly talking smack about me keeping up with him on the road, haha.

At this stage, I think the sound system would be the way to go - go for a more comfortable ride.

Great feedback guys!

As the little mexican girl in the taco commercial says, why can't you have both? lol

A K n N filter with cut open airbox will cost you under $100, then just get a vcm tune for about $750. Should give you a little more punch and a bit better fuel economy and will keep you happy for a while. Then spend the rest on sound system gear. Not sure how much all that gear you mentioned costs but I would probably skip out on the CD player, theres nothing wrong with the factory one. If your installing yourself and source all your wiring bits individually rather than as a kit, $1100 or so should get you a pretty sound system all round, and you'll also have the punch to take your mates ss to the cleaner lol

I'm with Bellato on this one.

You could also cut the 2 channel amp off your list because you don't need to run 6 channels. Unless your planning on running a sub that you haven't listed. In that case I'd run a monoblock.

Also whats the decision with running kenwood?

Cheers for the heads up Bellato - will definitely consider the K n N filter with a tune.

Those items I listed previously totaled $750~. Haven't looked around for installation fees yet.

I'm also looking at a double din head unit that supports a USB drive, listening to the radio while cruising down the south coast kills me and I haven't used CD's in years. I find it much more convenient and they're going at $169, not too bad.

rbjet - My mate is currently running those Kenwood products and it seems to operating well. In terms of budget, it's right up my alley - don't really feel like going all gun-ho with a crazy system for my car (that's what my home theater system is for heh). Cutting the 2 channel amp off would decrease my expenditure, thanks for pointing that out!
