My dream is to become an Airline Pilot but the road is long (understandable, you wouldn't want any old random flying 500 people), expensive (100K is the budget for initial training) and it takes a while to get to the good money. $250K for a Captain at some airlines but you have to start at the bottom of the rung. If your lucky enough to get in to Qantas they start at $70,000 but all the other airlines are lower, closer to $40K starting. Then you have to do more training, work your way up the hierarchy. Don't need to go through the bullsh*t training/uni you need for passenger airlines and training costs halve. Already did some flying and farking love it but I also love what I'm currently doing so not ready to change yet. Yeah Paulie, it's the Air Transport Pilot Licence that's required for airlines that is expensive. $1000 per test and there's 7 you have to sit, pay again if you fail and want to re-sit. Then there's all the theory and training for that licence plus the minimum required hours. At least freight just needs the standard commercial licence. Then Qantas used to run training roles "Junior Captains" I think they called it... This was where you got your proficiency in the larger aircraft. Will be good when missus finally finishes uni. Will be able to take time off to study/train if I need to.
